Description :

The Senior Engineer/Packaging SME is responsible for the end-to-end packaging, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of applications within a Windows 11 Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environment.

The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, specialising in enterprise application packaging using PSAppDeployToolkit (PSADT) and PowerShell, ensuring applications are secure, resilient, and supportable across both pooled and personal AVD host pools.

Application Packaging & AVD Delivery :

- Design, build, and maintain MSI, EXE, and scripted application packages for Windows 11 AVD.

- Use PSAppDeployToolkit (PSADT) as the primary packaging framework, including install, uninstall, detection, and pre-/post-install actions.

- Ensure all packages support silent installation, clean uninstall, and reliable version detection.

- Package applications with awareness of :

a. Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session

b. Pooled versus personal AVD hosts

c. FSLogix profile containers and non-persistent behaviour

d. User versus system install context

Application Updates & Vulnerability Remediation :

- Package and deploy application updates, upgrades, and security patches, including CVE-driven remediation.

- Respond to security-led remediation requests within agreed timeframes.

- Ensure updates are tested, reversible where required, and do not negatively impact user sessions or profiles.

- Coordinate remediation across AVD images and existing host pools.

Security, Testing & Troubleshooting :

- Ensure packaged applications comply with enterprise security standards, including AppLocker, WDAC, and Ivanti Application Control.

- Resolve installation, launch, dependency, and context-related issues within AVD environments.

- Test packages across relevant AVD host pools and Windows image versions.

Collaboration & Automation :

- Act as an AVD application packaging SME, supporting and advising other packaging and End User Computing teams.

- Align to shared standards, templates, and tooling to avoid duplication.

- Develop PowerShell automation and produce clear documentation for operational support and audit purposes.

Ownership & Accountability :

- Owns AVD application packaging standards.

- Accountable for packaging quality, resilience, and maintainability, including application updates and vulnerability remediation.

- Influences image, deployment, and security decisions related to application delivery, but does not own the AVD platform.

- Maintain clear, up-to-date packaging documentation to support operational support, audit requirements, knowledge sharing, and ongoing application maintenance

Technology :

- Strong, hands-on experience with PSAppDeployToolkit (PSADT) and PowerShell.

- Proven enterprise application packaging background.

- Experience delivering applications on Azure Virtual Desktop.

- Comfortable operating in secure, regulated production environments

Desirable :

- Experience with Nerdio Manager for AVD (or willingness to learn)

- Microsoft Intune / MEM

- Application control technologies

- Azure image lifecycle exposure

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration :

- Manage relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders, becoming a trusted advisor for Azure-based application delivery and AVD solutions.

- Work collaboratively to gather requirements, align priorities, resolve issues, and ensure solutions meet both business needs and platform standards

- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, switching between detailed technical discussions with engineering teams and clear, outcome-focused conversations with non-technical stakeholders

- Strong experience working with Microsoft technologies, particularly within Azure and modern end-user computing environments.

- Proven experience in scripting or software development using technologies such as PowerShell, JSON, or similar automation frameworks.

- Ability to work independently, continuously develop skills, and make informed technical decisions with minimal supervision

- Act as a cloud technology advocate, promoting best practices and modern approaches to application delivery and platform usage across the organisation.
