Senior Consultant - Database Administration/Data Engineering

Position Overview :

We are urgently seeking a highly experienced Senior Consultant DBA / Data Engineer for a critical 6-month extendable contract.

The ideal candidate will act as a technical expert to design, implement, and maintain large-scale, high-performance database systems, specifically leveraging deep expertise in Cosmos DB and Semantic Layer technologies within the challenging Financial Crimes domain.

Key Responsibilities & Architectural Deliverables :

Database Architecture & Optimization (Cosmos DB Focus) :

- Design & Implementation : Design and implement scalable, high-performance database architectures for complex, high-volume applications, with a focus on Cosmos DB for global distribution and low latency.

- Modeling : Translate intricate business requirements into highly optimized database models, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and alignment with modern data architecture principles.

- Performance Tuning : Monitor, analyze, and tune database performance to ensure highly efficient data access, index optimization, and rapid query execution, crucial for anti-financial crime operations.

Data Engineering & Semantic Layer :

- Semantic Layer Ownership : Architect, implement, and maintain the Semantic Layer to provide a unified, business-friendly view of complex underlying data structures, facilitating accurate reporting and decision-making.

- Data Pipelines : Develop and maintain robust, large-scale data pipelines (ETL/ELT), ensuring data integrity, quality, and timely movement of data across the architecture.

- Core Skills Application : Apply deep expertise in Data Warehousing, Data Modeling (Star/Snowflake schemas), and core DBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) to solution design.

Governance, Security, & Technical Leadership :

- Security & Compliance : Implement rigorous data governance, security, and compliance best practices, ensuring sensitive financial data adheres to industry standards and regulatory mandates.

- Troubleshooting : Act as the highest escalation point to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, performance challenges, and critical production incidents.

- Cross-Functional Alignment : Collaborate effectively with Development, Infrastructure, and Analytics teams to align database strategies and roadmaps with overall business and technology needs.

Required Skills & Technical Expertise :

- Mandatory Core Technologies : Deep expertise in Cosmos DB and hands-on experience in defining and building the Semantic Layer.

- Database Expertise : 12+ years of comprehensive experience across relational and NoSQL DBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).

- Data Engineering : Strong experience in Data Warehousing, ETL/ELT processing, and advanced Data Modeling.

- Programming : Hands-on proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and Java for data manipulation and pipeline development.

- Cloud : Experience with major Cloud Database Services (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL).

Preferred Qualifications :

- Proven experience with Cloud Database Management and Data Integration tools.

- Direct domain experience in the Financial Crimes, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), or Banking sector
