Enterprise Backend Developer

About the Role :

We are searching for an Enterprise Backend Developer who is excited to help build the next generation of smart, reliable, and scalable energy solutions. At EG4, our technology powers solar, storage, and distributed energy systems across the world. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain backend services that support mission critical enterprise applications and partner integrations. You will create robust RESTful APIs, build high performance Java/Spring Boot services, and ensure consistent, reliable data management using SQL and ORM best practices.

This role will also support business to business (B2B) integrations that enable EG4 to seamlessly connect with partners, platforms, and energy ecosystems. Experience with the solar industry, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), IoT/edge devices, or communication protocols such as Modbus or IEEE 2030.5 is a strong plus and will help you quickly understand our hardware connected, energy focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs following best practices for scalability, security, and maintainability.

- Build backend services using Java 17+ and Spring Boot, applying clean architecture and high-quality engineering standards.

- Implement and optimize data access layers using ORM technologies such as JPA/Hibernate.

- Work with SQL databases to design schemas, write efficient queries, and improve performance through indexing and tuning.

- Develop and deploy backend services in AWS, leveraging cloud-native tools and modern development practices.

- Use Docker for service packaging, local development, and consistent deployment workflows.

- Collaborate effectively using Git and modern branching strategies.

- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and design sessions to maintain high standards across the codebase.

- Contribute to automated testing (unit, integration, contract) and support CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable delivery.

- Diagnose and resolve complex issues across the backend stack, supporting production environments when necessary.

- Support integrations with hardware devices, external partners, or enterprise systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

- 7+ years of experience with Java (version 17 or later).

- 6+ years of experience using Spring Boot to build backend services.

- 4+ years building and maintaining RESTful APIs in enterprise environments.

- 2+ years working with ORM technologies (e.g., JPA/Hibernate or similar).

- Hands-on experience with SQL databases, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.

- Experience deploying or building backend services in AWS.

- Strong experience with Git and collaborative version-control workflows.

- Experience utilizing endpoint testing tools such as Postman.

- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals: concurrency, distributed system basics, secure coding practices, testing strategies, and performance considerations.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with AWS services such as RDS, EC2, S3, API Gateway, Lambda, ECS/EKS.

- Familiarity with OpenAPI/Swagger for API documentation.

- Proficiency with Docker for development and service packaging.

- Experience with application performance tuning and observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing).

- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation practices.

- Experience with B2B integrations, including partner APIs, authentication patterns, or enterprise data exchanges.

- Domain knowledge in the Solar industry or Distributed Energy Resources (DER).

- Experience working with IoT devices, edge controllers, or device level communication.

- Exposure to industrial communication protocols such as Modbus.

- Understanding of IEEE 2030.5 (Smart Energy Profile 2.0) or similar energy communication standards.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering and product teams.
