SAP Basis and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) Specialist
Job Description :
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SAP Basis and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) Specialist to join our technical team. This crucial role involves maintaining and optimizing our SAP systems from a Basis perspective, with a primary focus on implementing, supporting, and managing our data archiving strategy using SAP Data Archiving and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) tools to ensure compliance, reduce data footprint, and enhance system performance.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead the design, planning, and implementation of the comprehensive SAP data archiving strategy across SAP ECC, S/4HANA, and BW environments
- Perform end-to-end implementation of SAP Data Archiving objects (standard and custom) using SAP Archive Development Kit (ADK) and the SARA transaction.
- Configure and maintain SAP ILM policies, including retention rules, legal hold functionalities, and audit areas to ensure compliance with global and local data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR).
- Utilize SAP ILM Retention Warehouse to manage and decommission legacy SAP and non-SAP systems, ensuring secure and compliant data storage and access.
- Schedule, monitor, and troubleshoot all archiving, deletion, and write jobs (via SARA and ILM transactions), analyzing job logs and statistics.
- Proactively monitor database growth (DB02, TAANA) and utilize DVM methodologies to identify and prioritize tables and objects for archiving.
- Configure and manage SAP Content Repositories and integrate them with external storage systems (e.g., OpenText, ArchiveLink) for secure archival storage.
- Manage the configuration of Archive Information Structures (AIS) for fast and compliant retrieval of archived data for business and audit requirements (SARI).
- Provide comprehensive SAP Basis support, including system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across various SAP components (ECC/S/4HANA, BW, PI/PO, SolMan, etc.).
- Collaborate with the DBA team on SAP-specific database optimization tasks, especially those related to data volume and HANA-specific features.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience in SAP Basis Administration.
- A minimum of 2- 3 years of dedicated, hands-on experience in SAP Data Archiving implementation and support.
- Proven expertise in SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM), including configuration of retention policies, legal holds, and data destruction.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with SAP ADK, SARA, SARI, ArchiveLink, and Content Server configurations.
- Working knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and their impact on data retention and destruction policies in SAP.
- Experience in analyzing Data Volume Management (DVM) reports and formulating archiving strategies.
- Familiarity with underlying database technologies (preferably SAP HANA) and their relationship to data volume and performance.
- Basic to intermediate ABAP debugging skills for troubleshooting archiving-related issues (e.g., in user exits/BADIs).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to collaborate effectively with functional teams, business stakeholders, and compliance teams.
Educational Requirements :
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Relevant SAP Certifications (e.g., SAP Certified Technology Associate - System Administration, or SAP ILM/Archiving) are a plus.
