SAP ABAP Consultant

Role Overview :

We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient SAP ABAP Consultant with deep expertise in developing OData services. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and supporting complex SAP applications, focusing heavily on enabling modern integration between SAP, Fiori/UI5 applications, and various external systems. This role requires a minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in SAP ABAP development.

Key Responsibilities :

The successful consultant will be responsible for a blend of core ABAP development and strategic integration using OData.

- Core SAP ABAP Development Custom Development : Design, develop, test, and support robust custom SAP ABAP programs, including classic and ALV reports, module pool programming, and utility programs.

- Enhancements and Interfaces : Implement various forms of enhancements (User Exits, Customer Exits, BAPIs, BADIs, and the new Enhancement Framework) to meet specific business needs without modifying standard SAP code.

- Forms and Output : Develop and maintain complex SAP output forms, specifically using Smart Forms and potentially Adobe Forms.

- Interfacing : Develop and optimize interfaces using technologies like IDocs, flat files, and remote function calls (RFCs) to facilitate data exchange between SAP and non-SAP systems.

- OData Service Design : Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, secure OData services using SAP Gateway (SEGW) to expose SAP data and business logic.

- Fiori/UI5 Enablement : Ensure seamless and efficient integration between SAP backend systems and SAP Fiori/UI5 applications, acting as the core technical bridge for modern user experience initiatives.

- External Integration : Facilitate integration with external applications, web services, and third-party systems using OData.

- Performance Optimization : Proactively optimize the performance of both custom ABAP code and OData service requests, focusing on response times and data payload efficiency.

- Collaboration and Support Business Partnership : Collaborate closely with functional teams (SD, MM, FI/CO, etc.) to analyze and translate complex business requirements into clear, effective, and sustainable technical solutions.

- Support & Resolution : Provide expert-level production support, perform root cause analysis, resolve critical issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across implemented solutions.

- Documentation : Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and solution deployment guides.

Required Technical Skills & Qualifications Experience :

- 8+ years of proven, hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development.

- Extensive experience in designing and implementing RESTful OData services using SAP Gateway (SEGW) and ABAP code-based implementation.

- Strong command of all fundamental ABAP development objects (Reports, Interfaces, Conversions, Enhancements, Forms/Workflows - RICEF).

- Hands-on experience with standard integration technologies like BAPIs, BADIs, and IDocs.

- Demonstrable ability to optimize custom programs, SQL queries, and OData services.

- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment is a plus.
