Role : Rulebook Developer

A Verisk Rulebook Developer is responsible for translating business rules into precise, implementable system specifications, developing, maintaining, and testing rule-based insurance applications, while collaborating with multiple teams to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and Maintain Rulebooks : Translate underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and business rules into technical rule sets for insurance systems. Maintain and update rulebooks to reflect changes in policies, regulations, or business practices
- System Integration and Application Design : Work closely with development managers, architects, and IT teams to design, implement, and optimize rule-based components within existing insurance platforms. Ensure seamless integration with other business systems
- Documentation and Specification : Create detailed, clear technical specifications and documentation for rule logic, workflows, and process changes to guide developers and business stakeholders
- Testing and Quality Assurance : Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and validation to ensure rule implementations function correctly. Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to improve system reliability and accuracy
- Collaboration and Liaison : Coordinate with business analysts, subject matter experts, underwriting teams, and IT staff to analyze rule requirements, confirm compliance, and resolve issues. Act as the bridge between technical and business units
- Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement : Research and recommend alternative, efficient methods to implement rules or optimize system performance. Identify gaps or inconsistencies in business rules and propose solutions
- Support and Training : Assist in implementing rule changes into live environments, provide support and guidance to testing and production staff, and deliver training or guidance for non-technical stakeholders as needed.
Required Skills and Knowledge :
- Strong understanding of insurance rules, compliance, and regulatory requirements within commercial or specialty lines
- Experience with system development life cycle (SDLC), application design, and rule-based systems
- Analytical skills for assessing complex business rules and translating them into technical solutions
- Communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with documentation standards and strong technical writing capability
- Understanding of data models, insurance reporting concepts, and related IT systems.
Qualifications and Experience :
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Prior experience in rule-based system development, insurance technology, or regulatory compliance is highly desirable
- Knowledge of software tools or coding frameworks used in application development (depending on internal systems) can be an advantage
