Role : Principal Engineer Roku / BrightScript

Role Overview :

We are looking for a Principal Engineer Roku / BrightScript with strong hands-on experience in Roku/BrightScript development, SceneGraph architecture, Performance Engineering, and technical leadership.

The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and providing technical leadership for production Roku applications in an OTT/streaming environment.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead the architecture and development of production Roku/BrightScript applications.

- Design scalable SceneGraph architecture, application routing, task/threading models, and reusable components.

- Drive performance engineering and optimization on constrained Roku devices, including memory footprint, rendering performance, application launch time, and frame rate.

- Define coding standards, conduct technical reviews, and take architecture-level technical decisions.

- Develop and maintain high-quality BrightScript and SceneGraph components.

- Work on media playback, player state machines, DRM integration, and OTT/streaming functionality.

- Review and optimize SceneGraph node creation, field observers, focus chain, and component lifecycle.

- Contribute to CI/CD, static analysis, performance benchmarking, and Roku automation initiatives.

- Translate existing/reference implementations into production BrightScript applications while maintaining behavioral fidelity.

- Provide technical guidance and leadership to a multi-engineer development team.

Mandatory Requirements :

- 13 to 16 years of professional software engineering experience preferred.

- 5+ years of hands-on production Roku/BrightScript development.

- Strong expertise in Roku SceneGraph.

- Experience shipping and maintaining a production Roku application through full Roku Channel Certification.

- Strong experience in Performance Engineering and optimization.

- Proven experience in Software Architecture and Technical Leadership.

- Experience with OTT, streaming media, or Connected TV products is strongly preferred.

- Strong understanding of Roku application development, task threading, focus management, and component lifecycle.

- Experience with DRM, media playback, player state machines, and third-party SDK integrations is an advantage.
