Key Outcomes/Objectives :


- Define and drive the long-term technical vision and strategy that aligns with business objectives.

Core Responsibilities :


Technical Vision and Strategy :

- Develop and communicate a long-term technical vision and strategy that aligns with business goals.

- Drive the adoption of emerging technologies and assess their impact on the organisation's software ecosystem.

- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to executive leadership, influencing company-wide technology direction.

- Develop and oversee the execution of strategic technical roadmaps for platforms and infrastructure.

Innovation and Execution :


- Lead R&D initiatives by evaluating and applying cutting-edge technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to solve real-world engineering challenges.

- Drive end-to-end delivery of prototypes and proof-of-concepts to rapidly validate ideas with measurable outcomes.

- Operationalise a culture of innovation by embedding structured experimentation and continuous learning into the engineering workflowensuring tangible outcomes, not just ideas.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship :

- Provide expert technical mentorship to senior engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence.

- Guide teams in best practices, design patterns, and architectural principles.

- Ensure consistency and alignment in engineering practices across teams and business units.

- Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives, such as internal tech talks and engineering forums.

Architectural Guidance and Standards :

- Define and drive the evolution of software architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

- Establish architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices across engineering teams.

- Conduct design and architecture reviews, providing expert feedback on complex systems.

- Own the design and evolution of scalable, resilient, and high-performance software architectures.

- Establish and enforce technical standards, best practices, and architectural patterns.

- Conduct architectural reviews, guiding teams in making informed trade-offs to optimise performance, scalability, and maintainability.

- Lead technical deep dives, identifying areas for improvement and implementing long-term architectural solutions.

- Ensure adoption of cloud-native architectures, microservices, and modern infrastructure solutions.

Industry Engagement and Thought Leadership :

- Represent the organisation as a technical thought leader in industry events, conferences, and publications.

- Publish technical blogs, white papers, and research insights to influence the broader tech community.

- Engage with standards bodies, open-source communities, and industry experts to contribute to technical advancements.

Cross-Team Collaboration and Strategic Alignment :

- Act as a trusted advisor in technical decision-making, aligning engineering efforts across the organisation.

- Facilitate cross-functional technical discussions and knowledge-sharing to drive alignment and consistency.

- Drive cross-functional technical initiatives, ensuring seamless integration of technologies across teams.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing :

- Maintain comprehensive architectural documentation, ensuring alignment across teams.

- Conduct tech talks, workshops, and internal training sessions to elevate technical knowledge within the organisation.

- Contribute to internal libraries, frameworks, and tooling that enhance development workflows.

- Maintain a deep awareness of emerging industry trends and proactively introduce innovative ideas and best practices to continually elevate the engineering organisation.

Community of Practice :

- Drive the Community of Practice (CoP) for your role by actively leading, cultivating and growing the CoP as a result of your thought leadership.

- Create content, engage in knowledge exchange / cross-pollination to further your craft.

- Mentor and coach individuals in the role-based competencies associated with a CoP.

- Input to upskilling and learning pathways based on the CoP that will aid individuals career progression.
