PRACTO CAREERS :
Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
- Automation & AI
Type : Full-time
ABOUT PRACTO :
Practo is on a mission to make quality healthcare affordable and accessible for over a billion Indians. We are India's leading integrated healthcare company, connecting millions of patients with the largest network of doctors, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, and diagnostic centers. Handling millions of searches, teleconsultations, and medicine deliveries daily requires a robust, zero-failure digital infrastructure. At Practo, Quality Engineering isn't just about finding bugs - it's about ensuring seamless, life-critical user experiences across our consumer apps, doctor platforms, and enterprise healthcare systems.
ABOUT THE ROLE :
We are looking for a Senior SDET who can own automation across our web, API, and mobile (Android/iOS) ecosystems, and who is excited about pioneering AI within our testing workflows.
You won't just run tests; you will help us transition into the future of QA - from AI-assisted test generation and self-healing locators to LLM-powered triage of production telemetry and errors.
You will work closely with development, product, and operations teams to build resilient, blazing-fast, and maintainable automation that keeps Practo's release cycles short without compromising on healthcare-grade quality.
This is a hands-on engineering role with deep influence over test strategy, framework architecture, and how our global team adopts AI tooling responsibly.
WHAT YOU'LL DO :
- Architect Multi-Layer Frameworks: Design, build, and maintain high-performance automation frameworks across web (responsive/desktop), mobile (Android & iOS), and backend API layers.
- Own Quality End-to-End: Take complete ownership of test coverage for your product area - from initial test design and PR reviews to CI/CD integration and final release sign-off.
- Advance Framework Design: Implement and scale clean design patterns: Page Object Model (POM), screen/fragment scoping for mobile, contract-driven API testing (Swagger/OpenAPI), and ultra-robust locator strategies.
- Drive AI Innovation: Integrate AI/LLMs into the testing lifecycle (e.g., AI-assisted test case generation, self-healing locators, intelligent failure triage, and automated flakiness detection).
- Supercharge CI/CD: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated regression and smoke suites; keep execution fast, parallelized, and highly reliable.
- Bridge Dev and Ops: Triage production errors and telemetry signals (e.g., Sentry, New Relic), correlate them with test gaps, and systematically drive coverage improvements.
- Metrics & Governance: Define and report critical quality metrics (bug-miss rate, bug ratio, SLA adherence, and automation coverage %) directly to engineering leadership.
- Mentor & Lead: Mentor mid-level and junior SDETs through code reviews, pair programming, and framework architectural guidance.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE :
- 4+ years in professional test automation / SDET roles, with at least 2 years managing complex, multi-layer automation architectures (UI + API + Mobile).
- Strong Programming Fundamentals: High proficiency in Python (and/or Java/JavaScript) - writing clean, maintainable, and well-structured object-oriented test code.
- UI Automation: Expert-level experience with Playwright, Selenium, or Robot Framework, featuring advanced locator strategies.
- Mobile Ecosystems: Hands-on expertise with Appium for both Android and iOS, including handling fragments, accessibility identifiers, and device/emulator farm variability.
- API & Mocking: Deep understanding of REST testing, contract testing via Swagger/OpenAPI, and utilizing stubs/mocks for self-contained, isolated test suites.
- From-Scratch Blueprinting: Proven track record of designing test automation frameworks from the ground up, rather than just maintaining existing ones.
- CI/CD & DevOps: Solid grasp of Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and containerization concepts for test execution.
AI/ML IN TESTING (THE DIFFERENTIATORS) :
We are looking for builders who want to shape the future of QA. We highly value:
- Practical experience using LLMs / AI tools to accelerate testing (e.g., generating edge cases from PRDs, automated script writing, or maintaining locators).
- Familiarity with self-healing automation tools and AI-based visual/element detection.
- The ability to code small internal AI tools - such as failure-log summarizers or test triage assistants utilizing OpenAI/Anthropic or similar APIs.
- An understanding of how to use AI responsibly in QA: validating AI-generated tests, avoiding hallucinations, and maintaining a strict human-in-the-loop validation process.
NICE TO HAVE :
- Experience working in high-traffic, consumer-facing tech (e.g., Health-tech, E-commerce, Fintech).
- Exposure to Performance testing (JMeter/Locust), Security testing, or Accessibility testing (WCAG).
- Database testing proficiency (SQL behavior, migration validation).
- Experience working in a cross-functional pod model aligning Operations, Product, and Dev teams.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (FIRST 6 MONTHS) :
- Months 1-2: Completely ramped up on Practo's ecosystem; mapped out existing automation suites across UI, API, and mobile, and closed the highest-priority coverage gaps.
- Months 3-4: Significantly reduced flakiness and optimized execution times across critical regression suites in CI/CD.
- Months 5-6: Successfully researched, built, and introduced at least one AI-assisted workflow improvement (e.g., automated test generation or failure triage) that the wider team adopts.
Practo is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
