Job Description :
- Design and operate scalable, secure, and automated MySQL, PostgreSQL infrastructure on AWS using services such as RDS, or self-managed EC2 instances.
- Champion a culture of automation over manual intervention, reducing repetitive tasks through Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) and scripting (Python, Bash, Go).
- Proactively identify areas of operational toil and implement automated solutions to reduce manual errors, improve efficiency, and increase engineering velocity.
- Lead performance tuning at all levels queries, schema, indexes, and underlying systems ensuring low-latency, high-throughput access patterns.
- Own the lifecycle and execution of major MySQL, PostgreSQL version upgrades, including planning, backward compatibility, rollback readiness, and automation of upgrade workflows.
- Architect and manage scale-out strategies using replication, sharding, or middleware such as ProxySQL, Vitess, or Percona.
- Implement efficient partitioning and data archival strategies to support long-term data retention, cost management, and compliance.
- Ensure alignment with security and compliance standards (SOC 2, PCI DSS, ISO 27001), implementing encryption, role-based access, auditing, and data classification controls. Bring forth database security hardening recommendations and work with the stakeholders to implement and secure the systems.
- Build observability into the database stack using tools like CloudWatch, PMM, or Prometheus/Grafana for real-time health insights and proactive alerting.
- Support high-severity incident response, conduct RCA/postmortems, and lead improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Mentor engineers across teams, set technical standards for DB schema architecture, DB operations, and advocate for reliability best practices.
- Work with multiple teams to identify existing opportunities to optimize and fine tune their queries, DB access patterns and the existing DB system infrastructure.
