The Role :

We are looking for a high-impact Director of Engineering to lead the engineering organisation that powers NoBrokerHood's core platform. This is a hands-on leadership role - you will set the technical vision, scale the team, drive architectural excellence, and work in close partnership with Product, Design, and Business to ship experiences that meaningfully improve life in residential communities across India and beyond.

Key Responsibilities :

Engineering Leadership & People Management :

- Lead, mentor, and grow a multi-team engineering organisation (backend, mobile, frontend, DevOps, QA) of 25- 40+ engineers

- Drive a culture of ownership, technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning

- Establish engineering career ladders, performance frameworks, and a robust hiring pipeline

- Partner with talent acquisition to attract and retain top engineering talent

Technical Vision & Architecture :

- Define and evolve the long-term technical roadmap - mobile apps, APIs, IoT integrations, and ERP modules

- Own the architecture of high-scale, high-availability systems serving millions of residents and thousands of societies

- Champion modernisation initiatives: migrate legacy systems, reduce tech debt, improve developer productivity

- Drive adoption of AI/ML capabilities - smart visitor recognition, predictive maintenance, conversational interfaces

Product & Stakeholder Partnership :

- Collaborate closely with the CPO and Product team to translate strategy into executable engineering plans

- Participate in roadmap planning, sprint reviews, and OKR setting; bring an engineering perspective to decisions

- Represent engineering in leadership reviews, board presentations, and investor interactions

Delivery & Operational Excellence :

- Own end-to-end delivery velocity: sprint planning, release management, incident response, and post-mortems

- Establish and monitor SLAs, SLOs, and key engineering health metrics (DORA metrics, defect rates, uptime)

- Drive reliability engineering - design for 99.9%+ uptime across resident-facing and guard-facing systems

- Ensure data security, privacy compliance (DPDP Act), and secure software development practices

Innovation & Ecosystem Expansion :

- Lead the technical strategy for international expansion (UAE and Southeast Asia)

- Evaluate and integrate third-party IoT / access-control hardware vendors and smart home ecosystems

- Build internal developer platforms, tooling, and automation that accelerate the entire engineering org

Requirements :

Must-Have :

- 10- 14 years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in an engineering manager or director role

- Proven track record leading multi-team organisations building high-scale consumer or B2B SaaS products

- Deep expertise in backend systems (Java, Go, Python, or Node.js), mobile platforms (Android/iOS), and cloud infrastructure

- Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, and distributed databases

- Strong product sensibility - ability to balance feature velocity with system quality and long-term health

- Excellent stakeholder communication: able to translate technical complexity for non-technical audiences

Good to Have :

- Experience in PropTech, FinTech, IoT platforms, or high-volume consumer apps (10M+ active users)

- Familiarity with hardware integrations - RFID, ANPR cameras, biometric devices, access control systems

- Exposure to ML/AI product development - on-device models, computer vision, or NLP features in production

- Prior experience building for international markets (Middle East or Southeast Asia)

- Track record of leading engineering orgs through rapid scale-up or pre-IPO growth stages

What Success Looks Like :

30 Days :

- Deep-dive into product, tech stack, team structure, and key customer pain points. Identify 2-3 quick wins.

90 Days :

- Ship a meaningful product improvement, restructure team pods for ownership clarity, and present a 12-month technical roadmap.

1 Year :

- Measurable improvement in deployment frequency and MTTR; team NPS above benchmark; a flagship AI or IoT capability live in production.
