Description :
Role : Network Engineer (Datacentre & SDN)
Location : Bangalore, Chennai
Experience : 6 - 10 Years
Role Summary :
The Network Engineer is a senior technical role focused on the architecture, deployment, and automation of large-scale IP Datacentre environments. This position requires a deep specialization in both physical infrastructure and Software Defined Networking (SDN), specifically within the Nokia ecosystem. You will be responsible for ensuring high-performance connectivity for enterprise applications, utilizing advanced routing protocols (MPLS, BGP) and automation scripting to eliminate manual overhead. As a key contributor to the application onboarding process, you will translate complex business requirements into resilient network designs, providing high-level troubleshooting and technical leadership across multi-vendor environments (Nokia, Cisco).
Responsibilities :
- Design, implement, and maintain high-scale IP Datacentre infrastructure, balancing physical hardware requirements with virtualized SDN layers.
- Lead the configuration and administration of Nokia routers and software, ensuring optimal performance and stability across the core and edge.
- Deploy and manage Nokia Nuage SDN solutions to facilitate automated, policy-based networking for cloud and virtualized workloads.
- Architect and troubleshoot complex routing and switching environments involving IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, BGP, and QoS policies.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive internal design documentation, including HLD (High-Level Design) and LLD (Low-Level Design) for datacentre expansions.
- Utilize Python or Ansible scripting to automate repetitive manual tasks, configuration deployments, and network monitoring workflows.
- Collaborate with application owners and developers during the onboarding process to ensure network architectures support specific application latency and throughput needs.
- Provide Tier-3 technical support and root-cause analysis for complex network outages or performance degradation in Cisco IOS-XR and Nokia environments.
- Execute rigorous network testing methodologies to validate new hardware, software releases, and configuration changes before production rollout.
- Communicate technical feedback and performance insights to cross-functional stakeholders, including IT leadership and external vendors.
Technical Requirements :
- 6 - 10 years of experience in Network Engineering, with at least 3 years in a large-scale Enterprise or Service Provider environment.
- Nokia Expertise (Mandatory) : Extensive hands-on experience with Nokia routing platforms (7750 SR, 7250 IXR) and Nokia Nuage SDN.
- Routing & Switching : Advanced proficiency in MPLS (L2VPN, L3VPN), BGP, OSPF, and Traffic Engineering.
- Multi-Vendor Skills : Strong experience with Cisco IOS-XR and a solid understanding of F5 TMOS or similar load-balancing technologies.
- SDN & Virtualization : Proven background in Software Defined Networking, overlay/underlay technologies (VXLAN), and virtual routing.
- Network Automation : Practical knowledge of scripting (Python, Bash) and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform) for network lifecycle management.
- Protocols : Deep understanding of IPv6 transition strategies, Multicast, and advanced Quality of Service (QoS) frameworks.
Preferred Skills :
- Professional-level certifications such as Nokia NRS II, Nokia ASPE, or Cisco CCNP/CCIE (Enterprise or Service Provider).
- Experience with network monitoring and visibility tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or SolarWinds.
- Understanding of NetDevOps principles and integrating network changes into CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with container networking (Kubernetes CNI) and its interaction with physical datacentre fabrics.
- Strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with global application developers and project managers.
- Experience in conducting network audits and security hardening in line with enterprise compliance standards
