Role : Mainframe DB2 Developer

Job Summary :

We are seeking a highly experienced Mainframe DB2 Developer to join our team, focusing on application development and maintenance within the z/OS environment. This role requires 6 to 8 years of dedicated experience with Mainframe DB2 Application Development and a strong understanding of database administration principles. The developer will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and optimizing complex DB2-based applications, ensuring high performance, stability, and integration with modern systems.

Core Responsibilities :

DB2 Application Development & Coding :

- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-performance batch and online applications using COBOL (or PL/I), specifically interacting with DB2 databases.

- Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions within the DB2 environment.

- Utilize DB2 utilities (DSNTEP2, DSNUTILB) for data manipulation, migration, and maintenance tasks.

- Perform application performance tuning, including analyzing DB2 Explain Plans, optimizing access paths, and ensuring efficient indexing strategies.

Mainframe Environment & Tools :

- Work proficiently in the z/OS operating system environment using tools like TSO/ISPF, JCL (Job Control Language), and VSAM.

- Manage version control and source code using systems like Endevor or Librarian.

- Troubleshoot and debug complex production issues, including analyzing system dumps and log files.

- Collaborate with Mainframe DB2 Administrators on database design changes, security, and backup/recovery procedures.

Modern Integration and Development Practices :

- Utilize expertise in Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline management, source control (Git), and project tracking (boards/epics).

- Adapt to modern application delivery frameworks (ADF) and collaborate with teams using technologies like Angular or React for potential service-layer integration points.

- Design and implement data exchange mechanisms between Mainframe applications and distributed/cloud systems (e.g., MQSeries, APIs).

DB2 Administration & Data Management (Support Role) :

- Possess a strong conceptual understanding of Mainframe DB2 Administration tasks, including capacity planning, monitoring, and security concepts.

- Assist in defining physical and logical data models and maintaining data dictionary integrity.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

Experience : 6 to 8 years of professional experience in Mainframe application development.

Mandatory Skills :

- Digital : Mainframe DB2 - Application Development expertise.

- DB2 Proficiency : Expert in SQL, Stored Procedures, and Performance Tuning within the Mainframe DB2 ecosystem.

- Programming : Strong skills in COBOL and JCL.

- DevOps/ALM : Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD and Version Control (Git).

- Environment : Proficiency with the z/OS environment and utilities (TSO/ISPF, VSAM).

- Notice Period : Candidates must clearly state their Notice period/Last Working Day (LWD).

Preferred Skills :

- Hands-on experience with ADF (Application Development Frameworks).

- Knowledge of front-end integration concepts (Angular/React).

- Experience with DB2 Connect or other middleware solutions for connecting to distributed systems.

- Strong understanding of IT IS_AMS_Mainframe_DB2 Administration concepts.
