Job Description

Job Summary :

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Level 4) with strong expertise in Perl, CGI, Python, and AWS to design, develop, modernize, and support scalable backend applications.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with legacy Perl/CGI applications and should be capable of driving application modernization using Python, cloud-native AWS services, APIs, and modern software engineering practices.

This role requires a strong combination of backend development, legacy application modernization, cloud technologies, troubleshooting, and software engineering expertise.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain scalable backend applications using Perl, CGI, and Python.

- Work extensively with existing legacy Perl/CGI applications, understanding and enhancing complex application codebases.

- Modernize legacy applications and gradually transition workloads toward Python and cloud-native AWS services.

- Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services.

- Design and implement scalable solutions using AWS cloud services.

- Perform application troubleshooting, debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization.

- Develop clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-tested code.

- Participate in application architecture and technical design discussions.

- Implement software engineering best practices around code quality, version control, testing, CI/CD, and deployment.

- Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and other engineering teams.

- Support production applications and resolve critical technical issues within defined SLAs.

- Contribute to technical documentation, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Evaluate existing applications and identify opportunities for performance improvement, automation, and modernization.

Required Technical Skills :

1. Programming & Backend Development :

- Strong hands-on experience with Perl.

- Strong experience with CGI (Common Gateway Interface) and legacy web applications.

- Strong programming experience in Python.

- Strong understanding of backend application development and software engineering principles.

- Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.

2. Cloud AWS :

- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.

- Experience designing, deploying, and supporting applications in AWS environments.

- Good understanding of cloud-native application architecture.

- Exposure to AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, CloudWatch, or equivalent services is preferred.

3. Application Modernization :

- Experience working with legacy applications and modernization initiatives.

- Ability to understand existing Perl/CGI codebases and identify opportunities for modernization.

- Experience migrating or refactoring legacy applications toward Python and cloud-based architectures.

4. Engineering Practices :

- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.

- Experience with Git/version control.

- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

- Experience with unit testing, debugging, performance tuning, and production support.

- Strong understanding of secure and scalable application development.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with Linux/Unix environments.

- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.

- Experience with Docker and containerization.

- Exposure to Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.

- Experience with AWS DevOps and monitoring tools.

- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.

- Experience in real estate, PropTech, SaaS, or enterprise software products is an advantage.

Required Experience :

- 6 - 8 years of overall software development experience.

- Strong hands-on experience in Perl + CGI + Python.

- Proven experience working with AWS.

- Experience in legacy application modernization.

- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams.
