About the Role :

We are seeking a visionary Senior Director of Engineering to transform our early-stage payment gateway into a category-defining fintech powerhouse within the next 12 - 24 months. As the technical owner of Zaakpay, you will oversee the entire ecosystem - from the core gateway and checkout experiences to risk engines and value-added services. You will architect the future of payments using an AI-native approach, ensuring our infrastructure is not just robust, but intelligent.

Key Responsibilities :

- Vision & Roadmap : Define and execute the long-term technology roadmap. Balance rapid feature delivery with long-term architectural health, high uptime, and strict SLOs.

- Technical Leadership : Lead, mentor, and inspire a multi-disciplinary team of backend and frontend engineers. Cultivate a technology-first mindset focused on craft and ownership.

- Architectural Excellence : Act as the lead architect for the platform. Evaluate emerging technologies and implement AI-native workflows (using tools like Cursor, Claude, etc.) to accelerate the SDLC.

- Execution & Delivery : Own quarterly planning and monthly sprint execution. Monitor execution metrics closely to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to translate market needs into seamless technical solutions.

- Operational Rigor : Establish world-class coding standards, security postures, and QA automation for interconnected, high-concurrency transaction services.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- Experience : 18+ years of experience in managing large-scale tech platforms, with deep roots in Java, Open Source technologies, and Distributed Systems.

- Bachelor's degree or Masters in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

- Scaling Track Record : Proven experience taking a platform from its early stages to a mature, high-traffic system.

- Mentor and Lead : Provide technical guidance, conduct design reviews, champion best practices, and uplift the team's engineering maturity.

- Cloud & Infrastructure : Deep expertise in AWS/GCP and cloud-native implementation strategies.

- Observability & Reliability : Strong experience coordinating with DevOps/SRE teams to set up observability, tracking, and resilient architecture.

- Database Expertise : Expert-level understanding of SQL and NoSQL technologies, data modelling, and performance optimization.

- AI-Native Fluency : Hands-on experience integrating AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude) into the software development lifecycle to drive efficiency.

- Security & Compliance : A solid understanding of secure coding practices and the overall security posture required for financial platforms.
