MetaDesign Solutions is a technology services and product engineering firm focused on delivering scalable data-driven solutions that help enterprises accelerate decision-making and digital transformation. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our Bangalore engineering team and own the performance, stability, and scalability of mission-critical PostgreSQL databases and data pipelines. The successful candidate will play a central role in optimizing query performance, designing efficient stored procedures, and ensuring reliable data availability for analytics and application workloads.

Key Responsibilities :

- Develop, maintain, and optimize complex SQL queries and PLSQL stored procedures to process and transform large volumes of data efficiently.

- Administer and optimize PostgreSQL databases that host numerous tables and high-record-volume datasets, ensuring availability and reliability for production workloads.

- Perform query performance analysis and fine-tuning using execution plans, indexing strategies, partitioning, and other optimization techniques.

- Design, implement, and improve ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration processes to support analytics, reporting, and application consumption.

- Collaborate closely with software engineers, data analysts, and product teams to understand requirements, validate data quality, and ensure accurate data delivery.

- Implement and maintain database monitoring, alerting, backup, and disaster recovery processes; proactively identify and remediate performance bottlenecks and incidents.

- Troubleshoot database-related production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive permanent fixes and continuous improvement.

- Document database schemas, procedures, operational runbooks, and optimization efforts; provide regular reports on performance metrics and improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications :

- 4-5 years of experience in a Data Engineer, Database Engineer, or similar role with hands-on responsibility for large-scale relational databases.

- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and strong experience writing and optimizing complex PLSQL stored procedures.

- Very strong experience with PostgreSQL, including administration, performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and configuration for large datasets.

- Proven track record optimizing query performance using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, index design, query refactoring, and execution-plan analysis.

- Solid understanding of database design principles, normalization, denormalization trade-offs, and data modeling for analytical and transactional workloads.

- Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT processes and integrating data from multiple sources while ensuring data quality and integrity.

- Familiarity with database monitoring and performance tools and techniques for SQL databases (e.g., pg_stat_statements, monitoring stacks, slow-query analysis).

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with large datasets under production constraints.

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and managed database services on AWS, Azure, or GCP (for example RDS/Aurora, Cloud SQL, or equivalent).

- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, columnar storage, and analytical database technologies.

- Familiarity with workflow orchestration and ETL tools (such as Apache Airflow, dbt, or similar) and streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis) is a plus.

- Experience working with NoSQL databases and polyglot persistence patterns.

- Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as Python or Shell scripting for automation and data processing tasks.

- Relevant certifications in PostgreSQL, cloud platforms, or data engineering are advantageous.
