Mainframe Tester - JCL/COBOL

About the Role :

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Batch Tester with strong expertise in JCL, file handling, TSO/ISPF, and SQL validation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, executing, and managing test cycles for large-scale mainframe applications, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and performance of batch processes.

Key Responsibilities :

- Analyze functional specifications and convert them into comprehensive Test Designs and Test Plans.

- Develop and execute Test Cases and Test Scripts for mainframe batch processes.

- Perform Data-Driven Testing, preparing and managing extensive datasets for batch validations.

- Conduct complete end-to-end testing activities, including :

- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

- Functional Testing

- Regression Testing

- Identify, categorize, and track defects based on severity; collaborate with development teams to ensure timely resolution.

- Utilize TSO/ISPF to access and validate mainframe data, logs, and batch results.

- Work with Cybermation and related scheduling tools for job execution and monitoring.

- Validate batch processes developed using JCL, COBOL, and ensure accuracy through automated and manual testing.

- Write complex SQL and PL/SQL queries to verify mass data updates, inserts, and deletes.

- Prepare detailed test documentation, including RTM, test summary reports, and handover documents.

- Review file processing logic, SORT utilities, and data transformations to ensure functional accuracy.

Technical Skills Required :

- Strong hands-on experience in :

- JCL

- SORT utilities

- File Handling

- TSO/ISPF

- Good understanding of Mainframe batch processing.

- Experience with COBOL-based application testing.

- Working knowledge of SQL / PL/SQL for data validation.

- Experience with Cybermation or other mainframe job scheduling tools.

- Ability to design and execute data-driven and scenario-based testing.

- Experience with test automation for mainframe systems.

- Exposure to Agile environments.

- Knowledge of financial or insurance domain applications is a plus.
