Mainframe Modernization Engineer - CICS/COBOL

Description :

- Lead discussions with business and functional analysts to understand requirements and assess integration impacts on business architecture.

- Prepare technical architecture and design, clarify requirements, and resolve ambiguities.

- Develop solutions in line with established technical designs, integration standards, and quality processes.

- Create and enforce technical design and development guides, templates, and standards.

- Facilitate daily scrum meetings, manage deliverables, and prepare weekly status reports for leadership review.

- Conduct detailed deliverable reviews and provide technical guidance to team members.

- Collaborate with onsite clients, coordinators, analysts, and cross-functional teams.

- Design templates or scripts to automate routine development or operational tasks.

- Assess the legacy system and define a phased migration strategy.

- Architect the target cloud solution, choosing between rehosting, refactoring, or replacing components.

- Lead the migration project, coordinating mainframe and cloud teams, managing data conversion, and ensuring rigorous testing.

- Engage stakeholders to manage change, mitigate risks, and ensure successful adoption.

- Define the vision, strategy, and phased roadmap for mainframe-to-cloud modernization.

- Assess current mainframe environments, identify modernization opportunities, and prioritize initiatives

based on business impact and technical feasibility.

- Lead the design of cloud-native or hybrid architectures for migrated applications.

- Ensure solutions meet requirements for scalability, security, compliance, and performance.

- Oversee the end-to-end migration process, including application analysis, code conversion, data migration, integration, and testing.

- Manage cross-functional teams of mainframe and cloud engineers, developers, and testers.

- Establish and enforce best practices for modernization, including DevOps, automation, and CI/CD

- Collaborate with business leaders, application owners, and IT teams to gather requirements and communicate modernization plans.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and escalations.

- Identify and mitigate risks related to migration, data integrity, and business continuity.

- Implement monitoring, validation, and rollback strategies to ensure successful cutover.

- Stay current with mainframe and cloud technology trends, tools, and best practices.

- Recommend process improvements and future enhancements for ongoing optimization.

The team :

- At least 4 years experience leading large-scale, complex migration and modernization project

- Deep experience with mainframe technologies (e.g., COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL).

- Proven track record in migrating mainframe applications to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

- Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, microservices, containers, and serverless computing.

- Familiarity with migration tools (e.g., AWS Mainframe Modernization, Azure Mainframe Migration, Micro Focus, Innowake, CloudEndure).

- Demonstrated understanding of tool-based application modernization, including code analysis, code conversion and automated testing tools

- Experience of DevOps practices and tools including automated build/deploy technologies/processes.

- Experience configuring application servers (Apache Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, IIS, Wildfly, IBM Websphere)

- Experience with authentication technologies (SAML, SSO, OAuth, Windows Auth)

- Ability to manage cross-functional teams and external partners.

- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

- Understanding of regulatory, compliance, and security requirements in mainframe environments.

- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP Architect and Mainframe Modernization) are a plus.

Education : BE/B. Tech/M.C.A./M.Sc. (CS) degree or equivalent from accredited university.
