Mainframe Developer - JCL/DB2/COBOL

Job Description

Key Responsibilities :


- Design, develop, test, and implement complex applications primarily using COBOL for mainframe environments.

Database Management :


- Work extensively with IMS (Information Management System) Database (DB/DC) and DB2

Database Management systems, including data manipulation, schema understanding, and performance considerations.

Batch Processing :


- Utilize JCL (Job Control Language) with advanced skills to write, manage, and optimize job

scripts and batch processing routines.

System Analysis :


- Analyze complex existing mainframe systems to understand functionality, identify areas for improvement, and support migration or enhancement efforts.

Troubleshooting & Debugging :


- Independently debug, diagnose, and resolve intricate application issues and production problems efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption.

Code Quality & Standards :


- Adhere to established coding standards and best practices, demonstrating a strong commitment to delivering projects with zero defects and maintaining high production quality standards.


Collaboration :

- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, business analysts, and stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure successful project delivery.

On-Call Support :


- Participate in monthly on-call schedules to provide essential support and ensure the continuous reliability and availability of critical systems.

Documentation :


- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for developed applications, processes, and solutions.

Must-Have Technical Skills :


- Proficiency in COBOL for mainframe application development.

- Strong experience with IMS Database Management (DB/DC).

- Strong experience with DB2 Database Management.

- Advanced skills in JCL (Job Control Language) for job scripts and batch processing.

Good-to-Have Technical Skills :


- Competency in SQL for database queries and optimization.

- Proficiency in Assembler.

- Familiarity with Supply Systems and the Union Pacific Ecosystem is beneficial
