We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong hands-on expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM to support development, maintenance, and enhancement of large-scale enterprise applications.
The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of mainframe batch and online processing environments and be comfortable working in a production support and development setting.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM.
- Perform analysis, coding, unit testing, and implementation of batch and online programs.
- Develop and maintain JCLs for batch processing, scheduling, and production runs.
- Work with DB2 databases, including SQL development, performance tuning, and data integrity checks.
- Handle VSAM file processing, including KSDS/ESDS/RRDS structures.
- Analyze production issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide timely fixes.
- Participate in system upgrades, data migrations, and application modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and production support teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Ensure adherence to coding standards, documentation practices, and change management processes.
- Support audits, compliance activities, and knowledge transfer sessions.
Required Skills & Qualifications :
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Mainframe Developer.
- Strong proficiency in :
1. COBOL (Batch and/or Online)
2. JCL
3. DB2
4. VSAM
- Good understanding of mainframe utilities (IDCAMS, SORT, IEBGENER, etc.)
- Experience working in batch processing environments.
- Solid knowledge of SQL and DB2 performance considerations.
- Familiarity with production support, incident management, and defect resolution.
- Experience with version control and change management tools.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Good to Have :
- Experience with CICS (online transactions).
- Exposure to Endevor, Changeman, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of mainframe scheduling tools (CA-7, Control-M, etc.)
- Understanding of Agile or Waterfall delivery models.
- Exposure to application modernization or migration initiatives.
Soft Skills :
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to work across Pune and Chennai delivery teams.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
