This role requires in-depth technical expertise to manage, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot all aspects of the CICS environment. The administrator will be responsible for implementing and maintaining CICS security (using ACF2), performing system maintenance (SMP/E), and supporting all associated monitoring and development tools.

Key Responsibilities & CICS-Specific Skill Set :

CICS Management and Configuration :

- RDO (Resource Definition Online) : Must be able to create any resource needed on CICS (e.g., transactions, programs, files, transient data queue, LSR groups, etc.)

- MRO Environment : Demonstrate an understanding of a CICS MRO (Multi-Region Operation) environment, including TOR (Terminal-Owning Region) and AOR (Application-Owning Region) configuration

- Dynamic Storage : Understand the CICS dynamic storage areas and how to manipulate them for short-on-storage situations or to accommodate future application growth

- Web Services : Proficiency in creating and supporting web services within CICS

- File Control : Install and use SDS CAFC (CICS application file control) for the control of files, application lists, and group lists

Security, Monitoring, and Debugging :

- Security (ACF2) : In-depth knowledge of Broadcom ACF2 security, including the ability to install CICS security requirements, maintain security within CICS, and create security rules as they pertain to CICS resources

- Monitoring Tools : Responsible for installing and maintaining Tivoli/Omegamon products (monitoring software for CICS, z/OS, MQ, DB2, etc.)

- Debugging Tools : Install and maintain Broadcom Intertest/Symdump (product to debug CICS programs, format transaction dumps) and aid developers with usage

- Utilities : Aid in the installation and day-to-day management of Trillium and Code1 software

- File Manipulation : Proficient at file manipulation through Compuware products, specifically File-aid software

System Administration & Problem Determination :

- SMP/E : In-depth knowledge of SMP/E to perform installation work on CICS and associated products

- Maintenance : Experience with CICS Version Upgrades and RSU Maintenance

- Problem Determination : Strong ability to diagnose problems, determine root cause, and provide remediation

- Dumps & Traces : Ability to create both transaction and system dumps (and port to vendors for analysis)

- Ability to set traces (Aux and GTF) to aid vendors

- Statistics : Be able to produce and interpret CICS shutdown statistics to aid in problem determination and growth projections

- Reporting (SMF/Splunk) : Moderate skill required to gather and manipulate SMF data (specifically the CICS 110 records)

- Proficient at creating (modifying) Splunk reports (dashboards) to report on all CICS metrics (CPU, storage, transaction volume, response times, wait times, etc.)

- Vendor Support : Familiarity with IBM and other vendor websites to open problem cases, ask questions, and prepare/send dumps
