Job Description

Position Overview :

We're looking for an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) Developer with 7+ years of solid expertise in RPG, CL, DDS, and DB2 on the AS/400 (i-Series) platform. This role involves designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing mission-critical legacy systems for enterprise operations.

Key Responsibilities :


- Design, develop, test, and maintain AS/400 applications using RPG IV (RPGLE), RPG Free, CLLE, DDS, and SQL.

- Enhance existing systems through bug fixes, performance tuning, and code optimization.

- Engage with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into effective solutions.

- Integrate AS/400 systems with other platforms (e.g., web services, APIs, external databases).

- Participate in and contribute to code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding best practices.

- Develop and maintain technical documentation-design specs, standard guidelines, and user manuals.

- Mentor junior developers and guide them in debugging, testing, and best practices.

- Stay current with IBM i technologies and contribute to modernization strategies, such as refactoring legacy code or integrating with modern systems.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- 7+ years of hands-on experience as an AS/400 (IBM i) Developer.

- Proficient in RPGLE (including free-format), CLLE, DDS, and SQL/400.

- Experience with development tools like SEU, PDM, and RDi.

- Strong knowledge of DB2 on the AS/400 platform and familiarity with system administration, tuning, and architecture.

- Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

- Team leadership or mentoring experience (especially in roles like AS/400 Lead).

- Exposure to modernization efforts-like integrating web services, refactoring legacy code, or transitioning to modern platforms.

- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, version control systems (e.g., Git, Subversion), and software lifecycle processes.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to liaise with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Domain knowledge in retail, warehousing, or finance could be advantageous.

Typical Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

- Proven track record delivering high-quality legacy systems.

- Leadership or mentoring background beneficial.
