Lead Software Developer - MEAN/MERN Stack

We're looking for a Lead Software Developer to drive the architecture, development, and delivery of our software platforms powering next-generation molecular diagnostics and digital pathology systems. This is a foundational leadership role with a clear path to Software Manager as the team grows. This role reports to the Director of Innovation/Revenue. You will lead the design and development of full-stack applications that manage lab workflows, connect to smart hardware, and deliver results in clinical and research environments. You'll also play a key role in building and mentoring a lean, high-performance engineering team.

Responsibilities :

- Lead and contribute to development across the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js ).

- Architect and build robust, scalable, and secure web applications and internal tools.

- Collaborate closely with hardware, product, and biology teams to ensure seamless software-hardware integration.

- Mentor junior engineers, review code, and establish clean engineering practices.

- Own project planning, sprints, and delivery timelines.

- Contribute to DevOps workflows (CI/CD, versioning, testing pipelines).

- Continuously improve system design and tech choices to support long-term scalability.

- Build and grow a small, agile software team with a focus on quality and ownership.

Requirements :

- Tech Stack : MEAN/ MERN (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js ).

- 8+ years of experience in full-stack web development.

- Strong JavaScript fundamentals, with deep experience in React.js and Node.js .

- Proven experience in building enterprise applications, workflow management tools, or LIMS-like systems.

- Track record of owning software modules or projects from end to end.

- Passion for building and managing small teams, coaching talent, and fostering a strong engineering culture.

- Ability to work in fast-moving, cross-functional product environments.

- Failed startup experience is highly appreciated. We value people who've taken risks, shipped fast, and learned from execution.

Bonus Skills :

- Experience working on software for medical devices or in regulated healthtech environments.

- Understanding of FHIR, HL7 SaMD development, or HIPAA/ISO 13485 standards.

- Exposure to medical imaging, digital pathology, or AI/ML integration in diagnostics.

- Experience building data pipelines or visual analytics dashboards for scientific/clinical users.
