Role Overview :

The Lead Python Backend Engineer is the technical lead and architectural owner for high-performance, scalable, and secure backend services. The role combines deep hands-on Python (primarily FastAPI, alternatively Flask) engineering with Google Cloud Platform architecture and deployment. You will set the technical roadmap, enforce security and coding standards, and ensure reliability and scalability across services. The lead mentors the team, oversees code quality and CI/CD, and partners with product and client stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.

Required Qualifications :

- 8+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Python

- Expertise in building high-concurrency RESTful APIs using FastAPI (highly preferred) or Flask

- Hands-on experience architecting and deploying applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including services such as GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Spanner/Cloud SQL, and BigQuery

- Strong grounding in Data Structures, Algorithms, and System Design patterns

- Expert-level knowledge of unit testing, integration testing, and automated QA (e.g., pytest, testcontainers, CI test suites)

- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps integration (version control, build, test, deploy, rollback)

- Working knowledge of event-driven systems and messaging patterns (e.g., Pub/Sub)

- Ability to establish and enforce security best practices for APIs and cloud-native services (IAM, secrets management, OWASP, least privilege)

- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and act as primary technical point of contact

Responsibilities :

- Own the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable, secure backend services in Python using FastAPI/Flask

- Define and drive the GCP strategy and best practices across services such as GKE, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Spanner/SQL, and BigQuery

- Create and execute the technical roadmap to increase resilience, reduce technical debt, and align with long-term business goals

- Establish and enforce coding standards, security practices, and quality gates across the backend stack

- Remain hands-on to deliver complex features, debug critical production issues, and guide root-cause analysis

- Oversee and improve code reviews for quality, maintainability, and adherence to CI/CD standards

- Mentor and grow engineers, fostering continuous learning and high-performance delivery culture

- Optimize CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows to streamline development-to-production lifecycle

- Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications, documentation, and solution designs

- Serve as the primary technical liaison for product, design, and client stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality delivery
