Job Summary :

We are looking for a highly skilled PostgreSQL Lead Systems Engineer (L2 DBA) responsible for managing global database operations in a 247 production environment.

The role involves end-to-end ownership of PostgreSQL databases, including performance tuning, upgrades, disaster recovery, automation, and incident management.

Key Responsibilities :

Database Operations & Support :

- Provide 247 PostgreSQL database support including incidents, service requests, problem management, and change management.

- Handle on-call support during weekends and off-business hours.

- Serve as the Primary DBA for multiple applications.

- Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance, replication, and availability issues.

Projects & Enhancements :

- Plan and deliver database patching, upgrades, and migration projects.

- Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual tasks.

- Manage and maintain tools/scripts used for database administration.

- Contribute to ticket volume reduction through proactive problem management.

Disaster Recovery & Performance :

- Execute and validate Disaster Recovery (DR) tests and exercises.

- Perform advanced performance tuning, monitoring, and optimization.

- Work with application and infrastructure teams to improve performance and reduce incident probability.

Innovation & Collaboration :

- Identify and implement POCs for new PostgreSQL features, open-source tools, and technologies.

- Collaborate with cross-functional global teams to solve database and application challenges.

- Proactively identify problems and implement preventive solutions.

Mandatory Skills & Experience :

PostgreSQL Expertise :

- Strong hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL 12, 13, 14 & 15.

- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, design, and internals.

Expertise in :

- Backup & Recovery (PG_DUMP, PG_DUMPALL).

- WAL Archiving, PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery).

- Replication setup & troubleshooting.

- Performance tuning (query tuning, index tuning, config optimization).

Tools & Extensions :

Experience with :

- REPMGR.

- PGBACKREST.

- pg_repack.

- pg_crypto.

- pg_audit.

- pg_bouncer.

- Foreign Data Wrapper (FDW).

Configuration & Monitoring :

- Strong knowledge of:

- postgresql.conf.

- pg_hba.conf.

- Experience with open-source monitoring and performance analysis tools.

Scripting & Automation :

- Good experience with Ansible and Shell scripting.

- Knowledge of Perl/Python scripting is a plus.

Cloud & Large-Scale Environments :

- Experience administering AWS RDS for PostgreSQL.

- Experience managing 1000+ databases in large enterprise setups.

- Familiarity with cloud & hybrid "as-a-service" platforms.

Process & Leadership :

- Strong understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change).

- Excellent coordination, communication, and crisis management skills.

- Ability to handle operations in a large, globally distributed environment.

Preferred Skills :

- AWS RDS for PostgreSQL certification.

- Experience in banking/financial domain.

- Experience in automated operations environments.

- Knowledge of Python/Perl for advanced automation.

- Hands-on experience with cloud-based infra operations.
