Description :
1) Act as an escalation point for complex network issues that L1 support cannot resolve :
- Diagnose and resolve problems related to :
1. Routers, switches, firewalls
2. LAN/WAN connectivity
3. VPNs and remote access
4. Wireless networks
- Perform packet captures and log analysis to troubleshoot network issues.
2) Network Maintenance :
- Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
- Implement routine configuration changes and firmware/software updates on network devices.
- Maintain network diagrams and documentation.
- Conduct regular network audits and performance tuning.
3) Implementation & Configuration :
- Assist in deploying new network devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Configure VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), and ACLs.
- Implement QoS, NAT, and port forwarding as needed.
- Participate in network upgrades and migration projects.
4) Documentation & Reporting :
- Maintain accurate records of configurations, incidents, and resolutions.
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provide detailed incident and change reports for stakeholders.
5) Security & Compliance :
- Implement and monitor basic security controls (firewall rules, access policies).
- Ensure compliance with internal security policies and external regulations.
- Respond to network-related security alerts and assist in investigations.
6) Collaboration & Communication :
- Work closely with L1 and L3 teams, as well as with other IT departments (Server, Security, etc.).
- Escalate unresolved issues to L3 or vendors as needed.
- Participate in on-call rotations or after-hours maintenance windows.
7) Typical Skills/Tools :
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or other networking equipment.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, or PRTG.
- Proficiency in CLI for routers/switches and possibly scripting (Python, Bash).
- Understanding of ITIL processes and ticketing systems like ServiceNow.
