Job Overview :

We are looking for experienced Kong API Gateway Engineers/Administrators to design, implement, secure, and manage enterprise-grade API gateway solutions in cloud-native environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Kong API Gateway, Kubernetes, API security, automation, and cloud platforms.

This role involves building scalable API management platforms, implementing security and governance standards, developing custom plugins, and supporting highly available API ecosystems across enterprise applications and microservices architectures.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, deploy, configure, and administer Kong API Gateway (OSS / Enterprise) environments.

- Implement and manage Kong Ingress Controller within Kubernetes-based deployments.

- Configure and manage APIs using Kong Admin API, Declarative Configuration (YAML), and DB-less architecture.

- Design and implement API security mechanisms including OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect (OIDC), mTLS, rate limiting, throttling, and API governance policies.

- Develop, customize, and maintain Kong plugins using Lua and related technologies.

- Build and manage scalable, highly available API gateway platforms supporting enterprise applications and microservices ecosystems.

- Collaborate with development, DevOps, cloud, and infrastructure teams to integrate APIs securely and efficiently.

- Implement API lifecycle management practices including versioning, documentation, publishing, monitoring, and deprecation strategies.

- Work with Swagger/OpenAPI specifications for API documentation and standardization.

- Support containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes.

- Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment processes using Terraform, Helm, and CI/CD pipelines.

- Integrate and manage CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps.

- Monitor API gateway performance, traffic, security events, and availability using observability tools.

- Troubleshoot and resolve API gateway, networking, performance, and security-related issues.

- Optimize API traffic management, routing, caching, load balancing, and system scalability.

- Maintain logging, analytics, monitoring, and audit mechanisms for APIs and gateway infrastructure.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- 3 tp 8 years of experience in API Gateway Administration, API Management, or Cloud Infrastructure Engineering.

- Strong hands-on experience with Kong API Gateway (OSS and/or Enterprise Edition).

- Expertise in Kong Ingress Controller and Kubernetes environments.

- Experience working with Kong Admin API and Declarative Configurations (YAML / DB-less architecture).

- Strong understanding of API Security concepts including OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect (OIDC), mTLS, RBAC, and API Governance.

- Good understanding of REST APIs, API lifecycle management, and microservices architecture.

- Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI specifications and API documentation standards.

- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes orchestration platforms.

- Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI/CD.

- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Helm.

- Experience developing or customizing Kong plugins using Lua.

- Familiarity with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with service mesh technologies and API mesh architectures.

- Exposure to Istio, NGINX, Envoy, or Apigee is a plus.

- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning capabilities.

- Understanding of Zero Trust security principles and cloud-native security practices.

- Experience handling enterprise-scale API platforms with high transaction volumes.

Educational Qualifications :

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field preferred.
