What We Are Looking For (At a Glance)

This is a Senior / Tech Leadlevel Progress & QAD DBA role.

We need someone who :

- Has deep hands-on experience with Progress OpenEdge + QAD

- Can own databases end-to-end across Prod, QA, Dev, and DR

- Is comfortable leading DBA operations, client calls, audits, and mentoring juniors

- Works well in enterprise, business-critical environments

Core Technical Skills Required :

1. Database Expertise (Must-Have) :

- Progress OpenEdge DBA (versions 9.1d to 12.x) strong hands-on

- QAD database administration

- Experience with :

- Database installation, configuration, upgrades

- Schema & extent management

- Index tuning and performance optimization

- Roll-forward recovery & database migrations

- Basic working exposure to MS SQL Server (user setup, DSN configuration)

2. Operating Systems

Strong experience on :

- Linux

- AIX (6.1 / 7.1)

- Windows exposure is secondary but useful

3. Backup, Recovery & DR :

Hands-on with :

- Database backups & restores

- Disaster Recovery drills

- DR validation and failover testing

- Experience supporting month-end and business-critical operations

4. Monitoring & Maintenance

Performance monitoring:

- CPU, memory, storage, data growth

Tools :

- Centreon

- Fathom

- OEM

- ServiceNow

- Handling alerts, incidents, and RCA documentation

- Routine housekeeping, filesystem cleanup, cronjob validation

5. Automation & Scripting

Shell scripting is mandatory

- Used for:

- Monitoring automation

- Routine DBA tasks

- Health checks and reporting

- Progress 4GL:

- Creating reports

- Debugging minor application-level DB issues

- This role expects automation mindset, not manual-only DBAs.

6. Application & Middleware Exposure

Experience administering:

- AppServer

- AdminServer

- NameServer

- Tomcat

Integrated systems :

- MES

- EDI

- SonicMQ

- Rollbase

- Corticon (BRMS)

- Not deep middleware engineering but solid operational ownership.

7. Security, Compliance & Audits

User access and permission management

- Audit support:

- SOX

- PWC

- Preparing audit documents and validation reports

The work includes:

- Production support for business-critical systems

- Client calls, reviews, RCA discussions

- Change management and SLA adherence

- Month-end and peak business support

- Leading and guiding junior DBAs
