Role overview :

The Backend Software Engineer will design, build, test, and operate scalable backend services and APIs that power Infinity Learn's digital learning products. This person will contribute across the development lifecycle, from API design and data modeling to implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production optimization. Success in this role requires strong Python and FastAPI expertise, deep SQL and Postgres fundamentals, practical AWS serverless experience, and the ability to build reliable distributed systems and event-driven microservices.

Key responsibilities :

- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, and event-driven microservices using Python and FastAPI.

- Build robust data models, queries, and database interactions using Postgres and SQL, with attention to correctness, performance, indexing, and transaction behavior.

- Develop cloud-native components on AWS, including Lambda functions, S3-based workflows, SQS queues, and integrations with other managed services.

- Translate product and platform requirements into reliable service designs, API contracts, and implementation plans.

- Write clean, readable, maintainable Python code that follows engineering standards, security practices, and testability principles.

- Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions, providing constructive feedback on API design, data access patterns, scalability, and operational readiness.

- Troubleshoot defects, latency issues, queue-processing failures, database bottlenecks, and production incidents with urgency and sound judgment.

- Collaborate with product managers, QA, DevOps, data, and frontend engineers to deliver backend capabilities end to end.

- Create and maintain unit, integration, contract, and automated tests to improve reliability across services.

- Support deployment, observability, monitoring, and alerting for production systems, including distributed tracing and service-level health metrics.

Requirements :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

- Strong production experience with Python backend development and FastAPI-based API services.

- Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with Postgres schema design, query optimization, indexing, and data integrity practices.

- Experience designing, building, and operating microservices and distributed systems in production.

- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, S3, and SQS for serverless, storage, and asynchronous processing use cases.

- Experience writing automated tests and validating backend services before release.
