Engineering Manager

Job Description :

IDP is a global leader in international education services, operating in more than 50 countries. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead software engineering teams, drive technical strategy, and ensure the successful delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable software products aligned with business objectives.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on coding experience, proven people management skills, and expertise in software engineering, project delivery, and modern cloud technologies.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead and manage software engineering teams, ensuring predictable delivery and adherence to quality standards.

- Define and drive engineering strategy, development methodologies, and processes to improve productivity and delivery efficiency.

- Plan, execute, and monitor multiple engineering projects to ensure timely delivery within defined budgets and business objectives.

- Maintain a balance between new feature development, technical debt reduction, system performance, and long-term scalability.

- Collaborate with organizational leadership to develop and manage engineering budgets, including tools, technology, training, and staffing.

- Establish clear team goals, performance metrics, and accountability frameworks to optimize productivity.

- Foster collaboration across engineering, product management, and vendor teams to encourage knowledge sharing and effective problem-solving.

- Delegate technical decisions to senior engineers while ensuring systems remain scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable.

- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and modern engineering practices across the software development lifecycle.

- Develop engineering and technology roadmaps aligned with business priorities and long-term product goals.

- Identify technical risks, resource constraints, and skill gaps, and implement appropriate mitigation and talent development plans.

- Implement monitoring, observability, alerting, and incident management processes to maintain system health and resolve customer issues efficiently.

- Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, operational excellence, platform capabilities, and software delivery.

Required Skills and Qualifications :

- Overall 9 - 11 years of professional experience in software engineering.

- Minimum 6+ years of hands-on coding experience is mandatory.

- Minimum 2+ years of people management experience is mandatory.

- Strong hands-on programming experience in Python or Java.

- Solid understanding of software architecture, engineering best practices, and scalable application development.

- Experience leading engineering teams and managing multiple projects or workstreams.

- Strong understanding of technical strategy, project planning, resource allocation, and delivery management.

- Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, senior engineers, vendors, and business stakeholders.

- Experience identifying and managing technical debt, engineering risks, and performance bottlenecks.

- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with AWS and microservices architecture.

- Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.

- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools, automation, and incident management practices.

- Exposure to AI-enabled development tools and modern software engineering practices.
