Role Overview :

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead and scale one or more high-performing engineering teams responsible for building, evolving, and operating mission-critical Java-based SaaS platforms. You will play a key role in technical decision-making, people leadership, delivery excellence, and cross-functional collaboration, while remaining hands-on enough to guide architecture and design discussions.

Key Responsibilities :

People & Team Leadership :

- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 8-15 software engineers, fostering ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement

- Drive hiring, onboarding, performance management, career development, and succession planning

- Build a strong engineering culture focused on quality, innovation, and customer impact

Technical Leadership :

- Own the architecture and technical roadmap for large-scale Java-based backend systems

- Guide design and implementation of highly scalable, low-latency, and secure enterprise applications

- Review and approve technical designs, APIs, and data models

- Promote best practices in clean code, design patterns, system design, and performance optimization

Delivery & Execution :

- Partner with Product Management to translate business requirements into technical plans

- Ensure predictable delivery through Agile/Scrum practices, sprint planning, and execution tracking

- Identify and mitigate technical and delivery risks proactively

- Ensure high standards for availability, reliability, and operational excellence

Cross-Functional Collaboration :

- Work closely with Product, QA, DevOps, Data, UX, and Customer Success teams

- Act as the technical point of contact for escalations affecting enterprise customers

- Contribute to org-wide engineering standards and platform initiatives

Required Technical Skills :

Core Stack :

- Java (8+), Spring / Spring Boot

- RESTful APIs, Microservices architecture

- Hibernate / JPA

- SQL & NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Redis, MongoDB)

Distributed Systems & Cloud :

- Designing and operating distributed, multi-tenant SaaS systems

- Experience with AWS / Azure / GCP

- Containers & orchestration : Docker, Kubernetes

- Messaging/streaming : Kafka, RabbitMQ

DevOps & Quality :

- CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)

- Observability : logging, metrics, alerting (ELK, Prometheus, Grafana)

- Strong understanding of security, scalability, and performance tuning

Experience & Qualifications :

- 10-15 years of software engineering experience, with 3-5+ years in an Engineering Manager or Tech Lead role

- Proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade SaaS products at scale

- Strong background in fintech, ERP, BFSI, or enterprise SaaS is a plus

- Hands-on experience transitioning teams toward microservices and cloud-native architectures

- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-management skills

Nice to Have :

- Exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems (not mandatory)

- Experience working with global teams and enterprise customers

- Prior experience in high-growth product companies
