Role Overview :

The GMS L2 Commvault Engineer will be part of a 24/7 IT backup operations team and will be directly responsible for enterprise backup-related processes.


This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing Commvault backup operations in a large and complex environment.


The engineer will act as a technical lead, working closely with customer and internal teams to ensure smooth operations, issue resolution, and customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities :


- Manage and support Commvault Backup, Recovery, and Archiving operations in enterprise environments.


- Troubleshoot and resolve complex backup and restore issues, ensuring a high success rate (targeting 100%).


- Maintain and administer virtual libraries, disk-to-disk (D2D) backup systems, and physical tape libraries.


- Perform root cause analysis for daily backup failures and implement corrective actions.


- Plan and execute Commvault software upgrades, patch management, and configuration changes as per design standards.


- Ensure storage capacity planning and proactive monitoring to prevent space or performance issues.


- Document backup procedures, architecture, licensing, and configuration changes.


- Prepare and present regular reports on backup performance, incidents, and improvement initiatives.


- Collaborate with OEM vendors and internal escalation teams for advanced troubleshooting and support.


- Drive the adoption of best practices for data protection and backup management.


Required Experience & Skills :


- 4+ years of hands-on experience in Enterprise Backup Operations and Support, primarily using Commvault.


- Additional experience with HP Data Protector, Veeam, or Veritas NetBackup is a plus.


- Strong troubleshooting skills in Tape Libraries, Library Management Software, SAN Connectivity, and Backup Software.


- Solid understanding of Network Fundamentals and iSCSI Protocols.


- Good grasp of Data Protection, SaaS Software, and Cloud Backup principles.


- Experience in resolving backup failures through systematic analysis and collaboration.


- Proficient in managing Tape Rotation, Tape Management, and StoreOnce / MSL Tape Libraries (or equivalent).


- Working knowledge of at least one Operating System (Windows / Linux / UNIX).


Preferred Qualifications :


- Experience with Remote Managed / Monitoring Support environments.


- Knowledge of ServiceNow or other ITSM tools.


- ITIL Foundation Certification or equivalent.


- Commvault Certification or equivalent enterprise backup certification is highly desirable.

- Ability to configure, upgrade, and optimize backup environments across multiple platforms.


- Excellent troubleshooting and log analysis skills.

Education :


- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience
