About the Role :

We're building an innovative AI-powered accounting platform that simplifies invoicing, bookkeeping, tax compliance, and financial insights for small businesses. As our lead Mobile Engineer, you'll own the entire mobile experience end-to-end in a fast-moving startup environment. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role where you'll ship quickly, iterate based on real user feedback, and directly shape a product used by thousands.

You'll collaborate closely with the founder and product manager, working with modern tools like React Native + Expo, Convex (for real-time backend), Clerk auth, and cutting-edge AI integrations. Key Responsibilities :

- Take full ownership of the mobile app architecture, development, and optimisation using React Native + Expo

- Own end-to-end delivery of core modules : real-time data sync, advanced chat interactions, push notifications, voice/camera integrations, and AI-driven accounting workflows

- Drive code quality, performance, scalability, and best practices across the codebase

- Collaborate directly with the founder and product manager for guidance, priorities, and rapid iteration

- Implement deep linking, biometric auth, transactional flows, and extendable E2E testing

Required Skills :

- 3+ years of mobile development with deep expertise in React Native + Expo

- Strong proficiency in TypeScript (production-grade, strict typing, advanced patterns essential)

- Hands-on production experience with Convex (real-time queries, mutations, file storage, and backend logic)

Expertise in :

1. Expo Router (file-based routing & deep linking)

2. Modern styling (Tailwind-based solutions like Uniwind/NativeWind)

3. Auth systems (Clerk or equivalent for social/biometric/guest flows)

4. Chat UI libraries with custom enhancements (Gifted Chat or similar)

5. Push notifications and background tasks (Expo Notifications)

- Proven track record shipping complex, high-performance consumer or fintech apps solo or in small teams

Nice to Have :

- Advanced Convex patterns (vector indexes, scheduled functions)

- Experience integrating AI models with tool-calling (especially Claude Opus)

- Maestro or similar for YAML-based E2E mobile testing

- Fintech domain knowledge (invoicing, bookkeeping, tax compliance, financial insights)
