About the Role :
Our Client is looking for a proactive Embedded Linux Software Engineer to drive hardware bring-up, BSP customization, and Linux kernel-level development across custom ARM/RISC-V System-on-Module (SOM) platforms. In this mid-level role, you will bridge hardware-software boundaries, optimizing boot performance, device drivers, and system reliability for high-performance edge computing products.
Key Responsibilities :
- SOM Integration & Board Bring-up : Perform low-level board bring-up, U-Boot customization, and Linux kernel porting for off-the-shelf and custom SOM architectures (e.g., NXP i.MX, NVIDIA Jetson, TI Sitara, STM32MP1).
- BSP & Yocto/Buildroot Development : Design, configure, and maintain custom Linux distributions using Yocto Project (recipes, layers, machine configs) or Buildroot.
- Driver Development : Write, modify, and debug Linux kernel drivers and device tree sources (DTS) for peripherals such as I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, CAN, USB, and MIPI-CSI camera interfaces.
- System Optimization : Optimize boot times (Fastboot/Quiet Boot), manage memory footprint, and enhance system power management for edge hardware.
- Testing & Diagnostics : Utilize logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and JTAG debuggers alongside Linux tools (GDB, Valgrind, ftrace) for hardware-software integration and debugging.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner directly with hardware engineering and application teams to define system requirements, debug hardware revisions, and deploy over-the-air (OTA) update frameworks (e.g., Mender, RAUC).
Required Qualifications :
- Experience : 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in Embedded Linux software development on ARM-based SOM platforms.
- Language Proficiency : Strong proficiency in C and C++ for system-level programming; scripting expertise in Bash or Python.
- Build Systems : Hands-on experience developing and troubleshooting Yocto Project (BitBake, layer creation) or Buildroot configurations.
- Kernel & Subsystems : Demonstrated experience with Linux kernel driver development, device trees, and U-Boot bootloader customization.
- Hardware Interfacing : In-depth understanding of standard hardware protocols (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, GPIO).
- Tooling : Proficiency with Git, GDB, JTAG, logic analyzers, and serial consoles for low-level debugging.
Nice-to-Have Skills :
- Familiarity with Secure Boot, TrustZone, and hardware security modules (HSM/TPM) on SOMs.
- Experience implementing OTA update mechanisms (RAUC, Mender, SWUpdate).
- Hands-on experience with multimedia frameworks (GStreamer, V4L2) or edge AI accelerators (NPU/GPU integration).
- Exposure to containerization on embedded devices (Docker, Balena).
What We Offer :
- Impactful Work : Directly shape the core architecture of next-generation edge products.
- Flexible Environment : Hybrid/Remote workplace options with flexible working hours.
- Growth & Mentorship : Direct visibility with leadership and technical ownership over complete SOM life cycles.
- Competitive Package : Attractive salary, performance bonuses, health insurance, and learning allowances.
