With a legacy dating back to 1959, FCI combines decades of communication expertise with modern technology to help clients across banking, insurance, telecom, utilities, and healthcare transform their customer engagement into a strategic growth engine.

As Vice President Engineering, you will transform FCIs engineering function into a predictable, disciplined, high-velocity product delivery engine. This is a pure execution, delivery, and engineering governance role. This is NOT an architecture role even though the position requires a technical person to lead the function.

Broad Function :

Varta is building the Engagement OS for Banks across four core modulesCore, Signal, Stream, and Sensedeployed in secure BFSI environments.

10 to 15 years in Engineering, including 35 years in a senior leadership role in a PRODUCT COMPANY (preferably in Enterprise Software / SaaS / Digital Transformation / BFSI Technology)

The VP Engineering owns :

- Delivery & execution of the engineering function

- Sprint discipline & engineering governance

- Predictability & quality of the product

- QA automation & SSDLC

- People leadership & coaching

- DevOps execution alignment

- Engineering maturity, hygiene, and accountability

Purpose of the Role :

To convert the engineering team into a predictable, high-discipline, high-quality product delivery organization with strong governance, stable releases, and strict engineering practices.

Roles and Responsibilities (not limited to) :

1. PRODUCT DELIVERY LEADERSHIP (Primary Responsibility):

- Own end-to-end engineering delivery for all Varta modules : Core, Signal, Stream, Sense.

- Ensure sprint completion predictability.

- Establish Release Train (bi-weekly or monthly).

- Enforce code repo (git lab, git hub, etc) discipline : MR reviews, code owners, no forks.

- Maintain predictable, clean, and seamless Dev ? QA ? UAT ? Prod pipelines, ensuring stable deployments across varied client environments.

- Deliver releases that are stable, demo-ready, well-documented, and tested.

- Act as single point of accountability for product delivery timelines and quality for FCI engineering function.

2. QUALITY, QA AUTOMATION & SSDLC:

- Strengthen QA with clear KPIs and measurable quality outcomes.

- Drive QA automation (API, regression, performance) integrated into CI/CD.

- Enforce SSDLC practices across modules.

- Reduce P0/P1 defects by 50% within 6 months.

- Reduce defect leakage and enforce root-cause engineering ownership.

3. ENGINEERING PROCESS, GOVERNANCE & MATURITY:

- Implement strong engineering governance frameworks :

- DoR, DoD

- Estimation playbook

- Story grooming cadence

- Strong Jira discipline

- Structured Dev?QA handoffs

Ensure all features follow :

- Approach notes

- Acceptance criteria

- Test plans

- Release notes

- Fix broken engineering processes with a proven playbook.

- Build a culture of transparency, speed, discipline, and accountability. So engineering is able to ship out world class and quality products.

4. ENGINEERING TEAM LEADERSHIP:

- Directly lead Backend, Frontend, QA Leads, and Solution Architecture teams along with Scrum Masters and TPM/PMO, ensuring alignment, technical clarity, and disciplined execution across all streams.

- Strong people management : coaching, mentoring, performance rigor.

- Break siloed behaviors across the team (independent islands).

- Enforce documentation, accountability, communication rigor.

- Build engineering career ladders and scale team via structured hiring (freshers, mid-level, senior).

- Hold teams accountable to engineering standards and delivery commitments.

5. EXECUTION KPIs (Ownership):

- Own, monitor, and improve on various parameters (some example below)

- Sprint commitment vs completion

- Cycle/Lead time (DORA metrics)

- Change failure rate

- Product quality

- ETA adherence

- Defect leakage

- Automation coverage

- Code review SLAs

- Productization of recurring issues

- Publish weekly dashboards to CEO & CTO.

6. TECH DEBT & PRODUCTIZATION:

- Maintain Tech Debt Register with Architect + CTO.

- Convert custom client-specific work into configurable product capabilities.

- Drive modernization, refactoring, simplification.

7. DEVOPS EXECUTION & ENVIRONMENT STABILITY:

- Ensure QA = UAT = Prod environment parity.

- Ensure reliable DevOps pipelines, deployment readiness, automation quality.

- Improve observability, centralized logging, monitoring, metrics.

- Enable stable, predictable, near-zero-downtime deployments.

8. ANY-PREM DEPLOYMENT READINESS (BANKS):

- Ensure all modules are BFSI Any-prem deployment-ready.

- Partner with Delivery teams to prepare : Installation playbooks, Configuration templates, Monitoring dashboards

- Release Management & Rollback plans

- Reduce recurring P0/P1 issues through product improvementsnot firefighting.

9. CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION:

- Align closely with Product Manager for roadmap ? estimates ? releases.

- Work with CTO for infra, cloud costs, scalability, InfoSec.

- Support Sales/Pre-Sales with stable demo environments.

- Empower Support/L1/L2 with better debugging tools, logs, diagnostics.

Desired Qualifications & Experience :

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

- 1015 years of engineering experience with at least 57 in senior leadership.

- Proven success in leading engineering teams of 40100+ people.

- Experience in enterprise SaaS, digital transformation, BFSI technology, or similar secure environments.

- Strong understanding of modern architecture - microservices, distributed systems, DevOps, CI/CD, and debugging large-scale systems.

- Experience with engineering governance (DoD, automation, code reviews).

- Strong analytical, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

- Integrate AI capabilities within engineering operations to higher automation, quality & faster delivery outcomesprior experience with AI-driven engineering tools will be a strong advantage.
