We are looking for an experienced Senior Performance Test Engineer to support a banking project, with strong hands-on expertise in performance testing using Apache JMeter and Java. The candidate should have experience designing and executing performance test scenarios, analysing application behaviour under varying workloads, and identifying performance bottlenecks across application and infrastructure layers.

Knowledge of the banking and cards domain, particularly ISO 8583 messaging, is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, adaptability to new technologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and database teams.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain performance test scripts using Apache JMeter.

- Configure test scenarios, virtual user loads, ramp-up periods, execution duration, and other test conditions based on business and technical requirements.

- Execute different types of performance tests, including load, stress, endurance, spike, and scalability testing.

- Develop and optimise reusable performance test scripts following industry-standard best practices.

- Use Java programming skills to develop test utilities, custom functions, scripting logic, and performance-testing enhancements wherever required.

- Analyse test results to identify bottlenecks, response-time issues, throughput limitations, and system resource constraints.

- Monitor system performance during test execution, including CPU utilisation, memory consumption, network traffic, database performance, and application logs.

- Collaborate with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and database teams to configure test environments and resolve performance-related issues.

- Conduct root cause analysis and support performance tuning and optimisation activities.

- Prepare performance test plans, execution reports, metrics dashboards, and recommendations for improvement.

- Validate application performance against defined service-level agreements (SLAs), response-time targets, throughput expectations, and concurrent-user requirements.

- Apply knowledge of banking transactions, card-processing workflows, and ISO 8583 message formats while designing relevant performance scenarios.

- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when working with changing customer requirements, project priorities, and new technologies.

- Communicate test findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical teams and stakeholders.

Required Skills :

- 6 - 7 years of experience in performance testing or performance engineering.

- Strong hands-on experience with Apache JMeter, including script development, test configuration, execution, and result analysis.

- Mandatory hands-on knowledge of Java programming.

- Experience executing load, stress, endurance, spike, and scalability tests.

- Strong understanding of performance metrics such as response time, throughput, latency, error rate, and concurrent-user capacity.

- Experience monitoring application, server, network, and database performance during test execution.

- Knowledge of performance bottleneck identification, root cause analysis, and tuning recommendations.

- Understanding of performance-testing methodologies and industry-standard scripting practices.

- Good understanding of banking and financial transaction processing.

- Knowledge of ISO 8583 message formats and card-payment processing is essential.

- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills :

- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and performance-test automation.

- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or similar platforms.

- Familiarity with SQL and database performance analysis.

- Experience working with distributed applications, APIs, and transaction-heavy banking systems.

- Exposure to performance testing in payment gateways, card authorisation, transaction switching, or related banking systems.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.

- Relevant performance-testing certifications are an advantage.
