ETL Tester - Automation Testing

We are hiring an ETL Tester for one of our clients' MNCs.

Job Type : 6 months contract + ext.ETL Tester (also known as Data Integration / Data Warehouse Tester)

Job Summary :

As an ETL Tester, you will ensure data accuracy, integrity, and completeness throughout the Extract Transform Load lifecycle. Youll work closely with ETL developers, data engineers, business analysts, and QA teams to validate data flows, identify defects, and optimize data pipelines for robust business reporting

Key Responsibilities

1. Test Design & Execution :

- Design, document, and execute detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts covering all ETL stages (extract, transform, load)

- Validate data extraction by verifying row counts, formats, nulls, duplicates, and referential integrity between source and staging

- Ensure transformation logic is accuratebusiness calculations, mappings, cleansing, thresholds, surrogate key derivations

- Confirm data loads into target systems correctly : record counts, key fields, historical loads, and fact/dimension integrity

2. Defect Logging & Troubleshooting :

- Identify root causes of data discrepancies, log defects in tools like Jira or HP ALM, monitor fixes and regressions

- Analyze and report on data quality issuestechnical and business-leveland recommend remediation strategies.

3. Automation & Performance :

- Automate repetitive ETL tests (e.g., record counts, transformation validations, load validations) using SQL, shell scripts, Python, frameworks ? Great Expectations, NBi, etc.

- Perform regression and performance testing of ETL jobs post-deployment.

4. Collaboration :

- Work within agile teams alongside ETL developers, data architects, BI/business analysts to align on source-to-target mappings and ETL logic

- Maintain clear communicationpresent test results, discuss defects, and collaborate on improvement initiatives.

5. Documentation & Reporting :

- Create and update test artifacts : test plans, test case matrices, sampling frameworks, test data sets, and summary reports

- Ensure adherence to data governance and compliance standards during ETL testing

Key Requirements :

Education & Experience :

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent

- Typically 2+ years of experience (or 3+ for mid-level roles) in ETL testing, data validation, or data warehousing

Technical Skills :

- SQL expertise : hands-on experience writing queries for counts, joins, MINUS/EXCEPT checks for reconciliation.

- Familiarity with ETL tools (Informatica, Talend, SSIS, DataStage, etc.) and frameworks

- Basic scripting skills (Shell, Python, PowerShell) for automation

- Exposure to data warehousing conceptsstar schemas, fact/dimension tables, CDC, data modeling

- Experience with test management tools (Jira, HP ALM, TestRail)

Soft & Analytical Skills :

- Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail

- Effective written and verbal communication to align cross?functionally and present findings.

- Team-player with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum processes

Preferred/Add-On Skills :

- Automated CI/CD pipeline experience (e.g. Jenkins, Git).

- Knowledge of big data ecosystems (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).

- Experience with modern data quality frameworks : Great Expectations, Soda, DBT

- Certifications in ETL testing or ISTQB are a plus.

Skills :

- Data migration experience in aws to gcp data migration.

- Postgres to alloydb

- Presto to big query

- S3 to GCS

- Along with python automation skills
