We are open to hiring strong individual contributors (ICs) who are willing to transition into an Engineering Manager (EM) role as well as experienced managers with deep technical expertise in Backstage.
The role requires a highly technical leader who can drive product vision while managing and mentoring a team of 10-15 engineers.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & People Management :
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 1015 software engineers.
- Set performance objectives, conduct reviews, and support career growth of team members.
- Influence and inspire team members to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Define a vision for the team in alignment with organizational goals and translate it into actionable plans.
Technical Ownership :
- Drive the product vision and contribute to platform development, with a focus on Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs).
- Preferred experience with Backstage (IDP), but expertise in other IDP tooling/platforms is also considered.
- Collaborate with development, architecture, solutions, and QA teams to ensure software systems meet standards of scalability, stability, testability, and performance.
- Act as a technical reference point across multiple areas, solving complex challenges and anticipating future solutions.
Accountability & Execution :
- Define and communicate technical/functional roadmaps and objectives for the team.
- Take ownership of team performance and delivery outcomes.
- Address resource and operational challenges, and suggest process improvements or new approaches.
- Ensure timely investigation and resolution of production support issues and customer inquiries.
Communication :
- Provide clear and timely updates to team members and stakeholders.
- Maintain transparency on team progress, challenges, and outcomes.
Qualifications & Skills :
- Strong hands-on technical background with experience in platform engineering or internal developer platforms (Backstage preferred).
- 100% technical professional, with a willingness to manage and grow a team (prior managerial experience is not mandatory).
- Proven ability to influence, motivate, and drive results through others.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and resolve complex issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
