Role : Embedded Software Engineer - Power Management
Experience : 8-15 Years

Key skills :
- Education : B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
- Experience : 4-12 years in embedded Linux / system software development
- Strong understanding of DVFS concepts and implementation
- Hands-on experience with ARM Trusted Firmware (ATF) and secure world power management
- Deep knowledge of the Linux Power Management Framework (CPUFreq, CPUIdle, PM domains, Runtime PM)
- Experience with thermal management frameworks in Linux
- Expertise in power & performance tuning for resource-constrained devices
- BSP bring-up experience with board-level power debugging
- Strong C programming skills; Linux kernel module development experience
- Familiarity with Device Tree configuration for power domains and regulators
Key Responsibilities :
General Power Management :
- Design, develop, and optimize power management subsystems for ARM-based SoCs
- Implement and tune DVFS (Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling) policies for optimal power-performance balance
- Work with ARM Trusted Firmware (ATF) for secure boot and low-power state transitions (suspend/resume, idle states)
- Develop and maintain Linux Power Management Framework components including :
1. CPUIdle / CPUFreq governors
2. Runtime PM
3. System suspend (S2R, S2Idle)
4. Wakeup source management
- Implement thermal management solutions (thermal zones, cooling devices, throttling policies)
- Optimize system power consumption for battery-operated consumer devices
PMIC Driver Development & Integration :
- Develop, port, and maintain Linux PMIC drivers using standard kernel subsystems :
1. Regulator Framework for voltage rail management (LDOs, DC-DC converters)
2. MFD (Multi-Function Device) subsystem for PMICs with multiple sub-devices
3. RTC subsystem for PMIC-integrated real-time clocks
4. Input subsystem for PMIC power button/key events
5. Power Supply class for battery and charger interfaces
- Configure PMIC registers for voltage sequencing, power-on/off sequences, and soft-start timings
- Implement dynamic voltage scaling by interfacing PMIC regulators with CPUFreq/devfreq
- Handle PMIC interrupts for fault detection (over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, over-current)
- Debug and resolve PMIC-related issues such as :
1. Voltage droop during load transients
2. Sequencing failures during suspend/resume cycles
3. I2C/SPI communication errors with PMIC
- Watchdog timer configuration and recovery,Configure low-power modes on PMIC (sleep, standby, hibernate) and coordinate with SoC power states
- Work with PMIC vendors (e.g., TI, Qualcomm, Dialog, Maxim, Rohm) on register maps, errata, and tuning parameters
- Optimize quiescent current (Iq) and standby power consumption through proper PMIC configuration
- Validate PMIC behavior using bench measurements (oscilloscope, multimeter, power analyzer)
BSP & Board-Level Debugging :
- Perform board-level power debugging using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and JTAG/SWD tools
- Collaborate with hardware teams during BSP bring-up and power rail validation
- Analyze power rail startup sequences and debug boot failures related to PMIC
- Document power architecture, tuning parameters, and debugging procedures
Skill Area Expectation :
- Regulator Framework : In-depth understanding of Linux regulator consumer/provider model, constraints, and coupling
- PMIC Communication : Experience with I2C/SPI-based PMIC register access and debugging
- Voltage Sequencing : Knowledge of power rail dependencies and sequencing requirements
- Low-Power States : Experience configuring PMIC sleep/standby modes and wake sources
- Fault Handling : Ability to implement and debug OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP fault handlers
- PMIC Families : Hands-on experience with PMICs from vendors like TI (TPS series), Qualcomm, Dialog, Maxim Integrated, Rohm, or similar
- Hardware Debugging : Proficiency in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power monitors for PMIC debugging
Good-to-Have :
- Experience with battery management systems (BMS) and fuel gauge ICs (e.g., TI BQ series)
- Familiarity with battery charging ICs and USB PD/Type-C power negotiation
- Exposure to power profiling tools (Joulescope, Monsoon Power Monitor, etc.)
- Understanding of ARM architecture (Cortex-A/Cortex-M) power states
- Experience with consumer electronics or IoT device development
- Knowledge of PSCI (Power State Coordination Interface)
- Experience with PMIC bring-up on new silicon (pre-silicon/emulation experience is a pluse)
