Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Linux Engineer with strong expertise in Yocto Project, BSP Development, Linux Kernel Integration, Device Drivers, and Embedded Linux Platforms.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for modernizing embedded Linux software stacks, migrating legacy Yocto environments to current LTS releases, optimizing build systems, and enabling seamless hardware-software integration across embedded devices.
This role requires deep technical knowledge of Linux internals, board support packages, kernel customization, bootloaders, and embedded system architecture.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead migration of Yocto-based Linux distributions from legacy releases to current Long-Term Support (LTS) versions.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance custom Yocto layers, BitBake recipes, package groups, and image configurations.
- Customize OpenEmbedded metadata and build environments for embedded product requirements.
- Analyze and resolve dependency, packaging, and build reproducibility issues.
- Implement Yocto best practices for maintainability, scalability, and release management.
- Design, develop, and maintain Board Support Packages (BSPs) for ARM, ARM64, x86, and other embedded platforms.
- Perform board bring-up activities for new hardware platforms.
- Integrate processors, peripherals, and custom hardware components into Linux-based systems.
- Modify and maintain Device Tree Sources (DTS/DTSI) for platform enablement.
- Validate hardware functionality and optimize platform performance.
- Configure, customize, and integrate Linux kernel versions for embedded platforms.
- Port kernel patches and maintain compatibility across kernel upgrades.
- Debug kernel boot issues, crashes, memory leaks, and performance bottlenecks.
- Support device driver integration and compatibility validation.
- Work on bootloader customization and integration (U-Boot, GRUB, etc.).
- Troubleshoot build-time and runtime issues related to:
1. Toolchains
2. Cross-compilation environments
3. Libraries and package dependencies
4. Bootloaders
5. Kernel modules
6. System services
- Perform root cause analysis for complex embedded software issues.
- Use debugging tools such as GDB, strace, perf, ftrace, and kernel logs.
- Optimize Yocto build performance through:
1. Shared State Cache (sstate)
2. Build mirrors
3. Parallel builds
4. Recipe optimization
- Improve build reproducibility and release efficiency.
- Integrate Yocto build pipelines into CI/CD environments.
- Automate build, testing, and deployment workflows.
- Implement Linux security hardening practices.
- Perform vulnerability analysis and remediation.
- Generate and maintain Software Bill of Materials (SBOM).
- Ensure compliance with open-source licensing requirements.
- Support secure boot and trusted execution environments where applicable.
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, DevOps, QA, and product engineering teams.
- Mentor junior engineers on Yocto, Linux kernel, and BSP development.
- Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
- Contribute to documentation, coding standards, and development best practices.
Required Technical Skills:
- Strong experience with Embedded Linux development and customization.
- Deep understanding of Linux boot process, init systems, and system architecture.

- Familiarity with RTOS integration alongside Linux systems.
- Understanding of containerized embedded workloads.
- Experience with OTA update frameworks such as Mender, RAUC, or SWUpdate.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5 to 10 years of hands-on Embedded Linux development experience.
- Proven expertise in Yocto migration and BSP development.
- Strong Linux kernel debugging and platform integration skills.
- Experience working on production-grade embedded devices.
- Ability to independently drive platform modernization and system optimization initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
