Database Administrator - PostgreSQL

We seek a seasoned PostgreSQL DBA to manage our cloud-based Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform. You will ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of PostgreSQL databases while collaborating with DevOps, cloud engineers, and clients. Your role will involve architecting scalable solutions, automating workflows, and mentoring junior teams in a dynamic, multi-cloud environment.

Responsibilities :

- Architecture and Deployment : Design, install, and configure PostgreSQL clusters in DBaaS (AWS, Azure, GCP) using IaC tools (Terraform, Ansible).

- Performance Tuning : Optimize queries, indexing, and vacuum strategies; troubleshoot latency/issues using tools like pgBadger, EXPLAIN ANALYZE.

- High Availability and DR : Implement replication (streaming/logical), Patroni, repmgr, and PITR/WAL archiving for 24/7 uptime.

- Security : Enforce encryption (TDE, SSL), RBAC, audit logging, and compliance (GDPR, HIPAA).

- Automation : Script provisioning, backups, scaling (Python/Shell), and integration with CI/CD pipelines.

- Monitoring : Set up Prometheus/Grafana dashboards, configure alerts, and analyze logs (ELK Stack).

- Capacity Planning : Forecast resource needs, optimize storage, and manage costs in cloud environments.

- Mentorship : Guide L1/L2 DBAs, conduct knowledge sharing sessions.

- On-Call Support : Resolve critical outages and perform root-cause analysis.

- Education : Bachelor's in CS, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).

- Experience : 8+ years as PostgreSQL DBA, 4+ years in DBaaS/cloud environments.

Technical Skills :

- Expertise in PostgreSQL 12+, extensions (pg_partman, pgAudit).

- Cloud platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, Azure Database, GCP Cloud SQL).

- HA/DR tools (Patroni, repmgr, pgPool), backup tools (Barman, WAL-G).

- Scripting (Python/Shell), IaC (Terraform, Ansible), monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana).

- Soft Skills : Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Certifications : PostgreSQL Certified Engineer, AWS/Azure/GCP certifications.

- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, DevOps practices, and multi-cloud strategies.

- Knowledge of other databases (MySQL, MongoDB) and migration tools (pg_dump, AWS DMS).
