The Role :
We are seeking a Senior Databricks & Data Platform Architect to design and build this foundation. This is a hands-on contract role with clear ownership and a strong path to becoming a long-term, full-time leader as the platform and company scale.
You will :
- Own Databricks architecture decisions.
- Build real pipelines, not just slides.
- Work directly with our CTO, CEO, and AI engineers.
- Help shape how enterprise mining clients trust and adopt our platform.
This role is ideal for professionals who thrive in early-stage platform work, technical ownership, and solving real operational data challenges.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design and implement a Databricks Lakehouse using Bronze, Silver, Gold medallion architecture.
- Build ingestion pipelines for :
a. Operational systems (fleet, dispatch, plant control, telemetry).
b. Enterprise systems (ERP, maintenance, planning, ESG).
- Synthetic and simulated data for digital twin scenarios.
- Support batch, streaming, and near-real-time data workloads.
- Establish best practices for data modeling, quality, performance, and cost control.
- Enable AI/ML teams with clean, explainable, production-ready datasets.
- Act as a technical authority in discussions with client engineering and data teams.
Qualifications :
Required :
- 7+ years in data engineering or data platform roles.
- 3+ years of hands-on Databricks experience in production.
- Strong expertise in Spark, Delta Lake, PySpark, and Spark SQL.
- Proven experience designing enterprise-grade data platforms.
- Ability to explain architecture to both engineers and executives.
Nice to Have :
- Experience in mining, industrial, energy, or manufacturing domains.
- Streaming and telemetry data expertise.
- AI/ML enablement on Databricks.
- Exposure to digital twins or simulation platforms.
- Cloud experience (Azure, AWS, GCP) with a cloud-agnostic mindset.
