Role Summary :
The Senior Integration Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting integration solutions across Virgin Australia's applications, platforms, and external partner systems. The role requires strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka, REST APIs, and microservices.
Key Responsibilities :
- Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into integration solutions.
- Design, develop, and maintain Java and Spring Boot microservices.
- Design and implement REST APIs and event-driven integrations.
- Develop and support Apache Kafka producers, consumers, topics, and consumer groups.
- Implement appropriate partitioning, offset management, retry, error-handling, and dead-letter-queue strategies.
- Ensure reliable processing through idempotency, schema management, and suitable delivery guarantees.
- Create unit and integration tests using JUnit and related testing frameworks.
- Conduct code reviews and ensure compliance with engineering, security, testing, and documentation standards.
- Work closely with architects, product owners, business analysts, developers, testers, and operational teams.
- Troubleshoot application and integration issues across development, testing, and production environments.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and application deployments.
- Provide post-deployment hypercare production support.
- Monitor integration services, Kafka workloads, system performance, logs, and alerts.
- Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.
- Produce and maintain technical designs, support documentation, and operational procedures.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical discussions, estimation, and delivery planning.
Required Technical Skills :
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
- Strong understanding of microservices and integration design patterns.
- Practical experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, including producers, consumers, topics, partitions, offsets, consumer groups, retries, and dead-letter queues.
- Experience with JUnit, unit testing, integration testing, and mocking frameworks.
- Understanding of event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing, and idempotent consumer design.
- Experience with Git, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployments.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause-analysis skills.
- Experience supporting applications in production environments.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Skills :
- Experience with cloud platforms and containerised applications.
- Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools.
- Understanding of API security, authentication, authorisation, and data protection.
- Experience with schema management and event-schema evolution.
- Previous experience working with airline, travel, or other large enterprise platforms.
- Familiarity with Agile software-delivery practices.
