Purpose :
CIMET is seeking a skilled Test Automation Engineer with strong expertise in end-to-end test automation using Playwright and TypeScript. The ideal candidate will play a key role in building, maintaining, and scaling our automated test coverage across multiple verticals - Energy, Telco, Credit Cards, PHI, and more - on our CAAS (Comparison as a Service) platform. The candidate will work closely with QA leads, developers, and product managers to ensure high-quality, reliable software delivery.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Test Automation Development :
- Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end automated test suites using Playwright with TypeScript.
- Build and maintain Page Object Models (POMs) and reusable test utilities across all product verticals.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous quality assurance.
- Experience with BrowserStack Automation for cross-browser and cross-device test execution (good to have).
2. Test Strategy & Coverage :
- Collaborate with product and development teams to understand requirements and define test coverage.
- Create and maintain test cases covering happy paths, edge cases, and negative scenarios across regression and sanity suites.
- Identify automation gaps and prioritise coverage based on business risk and release impact.
3. Quality Assurance & Defect Management :
- Execute and monitor regression and sanity test suites across multiple product verticals.
- Investigate, document, and report defects with clear reproduction steps and severity assessments.
- Diagnose flaky tests and test failures; resolve root causes proactively before release.
4. Manual & Exploratory Testing :
- Conduct structured exploratory testing sessions to surface defects that scripted tests miss, particularly for new features and high-risk flows.
- Execute manual test cases for edge scenarios and UAT where full automation is not yet in place.
- Apply risk-based testing techniques to focus manual effort on the highest-impact areas ahead of each release.
5. Collaboration & Documentation :
- Work in an Agile/Scrum environment collaborating closely with Dev, Product, and QA teams.
- Maintain test documentation, vertical coverage estimates, and test case repositories in Jira/Confluence.
- Contribute to QA standards, best practices, and knowledge sharing across the team.
Business Outcomes :
- Reliable, maintainable automated test coverage across all CIMET verticals with minimal flakiness and fast execution.
- Faster, confident release cycles through well-integrated regression and sanity suites in CI/CD.
- Clear defect visibility with well-documented reproduction steps, risk ratings, and test evidence.
- Steadily growing automation coverage that reduces reliance on manual regression effort.
Core Technology Stack :
Test Automation :
- Playwright (TypeScript) - end-to-end browser automation framework.
- TypeScript - type-safe test scripting and utility development.
- Page Object Model (POM) - structured, maintainable test architecture.
Test Management & Reporting :
- Jira / Confluence - test case management and documentation.
- Playwright HTML Reports / Allure - test result reporting and traceability.
- GitHub Actions / GitLab CI - CI/CD pipeline integration for automated test runs.
QA Process & Methodologies :
- STLC / SDLC - structured Software Testing Life Cycle within Agile sprints.
- Risk-based testing - prioritising coverage by business impact and release risk.
- Exploratory testing - charter-driven sessions to surface defects outside scripted paths.
- Bug lifecycle management - raise, triage, track, verify, and close defects in Jira.
- Test coverage estimation - maintaining vertical coverage matrices in Confluence.
Quality Tooling :
- ESLint / Prettier - code quality and formatting.
- Git / GitHub - version control and branching strategies.
- Docker - containerised test environments (nice to have).
Experience & Skills :
Experience :
- 5+ years of experience in test automation using Playwright, Cypress, or similar tools.
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript or JavaScript for writing and maintaining test scripts.
- Experience implementing Page Object Model patterns and reusable test components.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into build workflows.
Core Testing Skills :
- Proficient in Playwright (TypeScript) for cross-browser, end-to-end automation.
- Understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript) for writing effective locators and test logic.
- Experience with API testing and incorporating API-level validation within E2E suites.
- Ability to triage and debug failing tests; strong root-cause analysis skills.
QA Fundamentals :
- Solid understanding of Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and how QA fits within Agile/Scrum delivery.
- Hands-on experience with manual and exploratory testing alongside automation - knowing when each is the right tool.
- Risk-based testing mindset: able to identify high-impact user flows and prioritise coverage accordingly.
- Skilled at writing clear, reusable test cases from user stories, acceptance criteria, and product documentation.
- Bug lifecycle management: raising well-structured defects, tracking them through to resolution, and verifying fixes in Jira.
- Experience producing test evidence (screenshots, traces, reports) to support sign-off and audit trails.
Engineering Practices :
- Experience building maintainable test suites using Page Object Model and shared fixture patterns.
- Familiar with BDD/TDD concepts and writing test cases from user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and their role in continuous testing and quality gates.
AI Development Skills :
- Experience using AI-assisted coding platforms such as Cursor AI, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot as part of day-to-day engineering.
- Ability to leverage AI tools for code generation, debugging, refactoring, and documentation.
- Working knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their practical application in software products.
- Familiarity with prompt engineering and AI-driven development workflows.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience with Jira and Confluence for test case management and defect tracking.
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification or equivalent formal QA qualification (good to have).
- Cross-browser and cross-device testing experience, including desktop and mobile viewport strategies.
- Knowledge of accessibility testing (WCAG guidelines, axe, Playwright accessibility checks).
- Exposure to performance and load testing tools (k6, JMeter, Playwright performance tracing).
- Familiarity with visual regression testing approaches.
- Experience participating in or leading sprint retrospectives and defect triage reviews.
