Beem - Vice President - Engineering Management

We're seeking an exceptional VP/Director of Engineering to work directly with our CTO in architecting and scaling Beem into a comprehensive AI agentic platform. This role combines strategic leadership (30%), championing the team (30%), and hands-on technical contribution (40%), focusing on building sophisticated multi-agent AI systems powered by Model Context Protocol (MCP), Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and specialized AI agents (JobsGPT, DealsGPT, PriceGPT, BudgetGPT).

The core responsibilities for the job include the following :

Strategic Leadership (30%) :

- Partner with CTO to define and execute technical vision for AI agentic platform.

- Lead architectural decisions for multi-agent systems, payment infrastructure, and international expansion.

- Build and scale an engineering team from 15 to 30+ engineers over the next 18 months.

- Establish engineering best practices, code standards, and development workflows.

- Drive technical due diligence for strategic partnerships.

- Own technical roadmap alignment with business objectives and expansion plans.

Hands-On Development (40%) :

- Design and implement core components of the AI agent network.

- Build a sophisticated orchestration layer for BaseGPT and specialized agents.

- Develop payment processing integrations with Astra Fi (OCT/AFT, ACH).

- Implement memory management systems with RAG and vector stores.

- Optimize performance, security, and scalability of critical systems.

- Write production code, review architecture, and mentor through pair programming.

- Debug complex issues in production and lead incident response.

Team Development (20%) :

- Hire, mentor, and develop engineering talent across backend, AI/ML, and infrastructure.

- Establish technical career ladder and growth paths for engineers.

- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.

- Conduct architecture reviews and technical design discussions.

- Build effective on-call rotation and incident management processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%) :

- Work closely with Product to translate requirements into technical solutions.

- Collaborate with the Data Science team on AI/ML model integration and optimization.

- Partner with Compliance and Legal on regulatory requirements and implementation.

- Engage with Business Development on technical aspects of partnerships.

- Present technical updates to the executive team and board of directors.

The core requirements for the job include the following :

Technical Expertise (Must-Have) :

- 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.

- Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js with production experience at scale.

- 5+ years building and deploying microservices or serverless architectures.

- 3+ years of hands-on experience with AI/ML systems, LLMs, or agent-based architectures.

- Strong background in AWS services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3 CodeBuild).

- Deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and real-time processing.

- Proven experience scaling B2C fintech applications from MVP to millions of users.

Leadership and Collaboration :

- Led engineering teams of 15-30+ engineers through high-growth phases.

- Cross-functional leadership : Experience working closely with Product, Design, Data Science,

and Business teams.

- Technical mentorship : Track record of developing senior engineers into tech leads.

- Strategic planning : Ability to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps.

- Startup experience : Comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and wearing multiple hats.

Domain Knowledge :

- Fintech experience : Understanding of payment processing, credit systems, or banking infrastructure.

- AI/ML systems : Practical experience with LLM integration, RAG, vector databases, or agent frameworks.

- Compliance awareness : Knowledge of financial regulations (NACHA, PCI DSS, SOC 2).

- International markets : Experience launching products in emerging markets (India a plus).

Highly Valued Skills :

Technical :

- Knowledge of payment processing APIs and banking integrations.

- Experience with real-time data processing and streaming architectures.

- Familiarity with React.js or React Native for full-stack collaboration.

- Background in machine learning operations(MLOps) and model deployment.

- Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar agent frameworks.

- Proficiency in vector databases(Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar).

Domain Specific :

- Experience with credit scoring systems or alternative credit assessment.

- Knowledge of regulatory compliance in financial services.

- Understanding of underbanked markets and financial inclusion challenges.

- Experience international payment infrastructure.

- Background fraud detection or risk management systems.

Leadership :

- Experience managing distributed, remote-first teams.

- Track record of successful international expansions.

- Ability to balance technical debt with feature velocity.

- Experience with phased rollout strategies and A/B testing at scale.
