Role : Data Protection Officer, Assurant India.
The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is responsible for ensuring that privacy policies, processes, and procedures are effectively implemented across business entities in assigned regions (EU, LATAM, APAC).
The role supports and enhances Assurants Global Privacy & Data Protection Program, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
The DPO acts as a subject matter expert, advises stakeholders, monitors compliance, and leads investigations into potential data incidents while collaborating with global teams.
This position will be in Hyderabad/Bengaluru/Chennai at our India location.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job :
- Ensure integration of Privacy by Design principles into business processes (25%).
- Establish and manage systems for responding to individual data rights requests and inquiries (20%).
- Monitor, audit, and maintain records for compliance with data protection laws and company policies (15%).
- Investigate, manage, and report data breaches or compliance issues in collaboration with stakeholders (15%).
- Partner with business, legal, and compliance teams to ensure privacy requirements in client/vendor contracts (10%).
- Develop and present privacy metrics and report to executive leadership and governance boards (10%).
- Act as the primary liaison with data protection authorities in assigned regions (5%).
What are the requirements needed for this position :
Education : Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Law, Information Security, Compliance, or related discipline).
Preferred :
- IAPP certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM.
- Knowledge of insurance or financial services industry.
- Additional language proficiency relevant to assigned regions.
Experience :
- Minimum 5 years of privacy-related experience, with at least 2 years working independently.
- Strong understanding of data protection laws and privacy program management.
- Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple workstreams.
- Strong analytical, advisory, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to translate privacy regulations into practical business solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including interaction with regulatory authorities.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced global environment.
- Ability to draft and maintain privacy policies, notices, and procedures.
- High proficiency in English (verbal and written).
Technology Requirements :
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to manage privacy tools, compliance tracking systems, and reporting dashboards.
- Understanding of data protection technologies, security frameworks, and privacy-by-design implementations.
