The core responsibilities for the job include the following :
Domain and Team Leadership :
- Lead multiple engineering teams through managers and senior technical leaders across commerce, membership, and promise systems.
- Own a substantive engineering portfolio spanning our commerce, membership, and promise portfolios.
- Create clear boundaries, interfaces, and ownership within the domain so that most roadmap work can be delivered with fewer cross-team handshakes and lower organizational drag.
- Build a stronger leadership bench under you by coaching managers, improving role clarity, and raising the quality of engineering management across the portfolio.
Technical Direction and Architecture Quality :
- Drive sound technical direction across the systems owned.
- Review major designs and ensure teams are not solving domain problems through short-term patches that increase complexity, weaken correctness, or create hidden operational debt.
- Improve service boundaries, reduce coupling, and raise the quality of engineering judgment across the domain.
- Partner effectively with architects and principal engineers to make scalable, well-reasoned decisions on design, interfaces, and evolution of the stack.
Execution and Delivery :
- Improve delivery predictability, release discipline, and production readiness across the portfolio.
- Build strong operating mechanisms around planning, dependency management, design review, production health, incident learning, and launch quality.
- Reduce the blast radius of medium-sized projects by simplifying ownership and creating a more coherent engineering operating model for the domain.
- Raise the quality of execution without normalizing fragility.
Reliability, Correctness, and Business Outcomes :
- Own the engineering health of systems that directly influence conversion, order quality, membership experience, ETA quality, serviceability accuracy, and promise reliability.
- Ensure the teams build and operate these systems with strong correctness, observability, and production discipline.
- Partner with product, operations, finance, program management, and senior leadership to surface trade-offs early and make high-quality decisions.
Talent and Org Building :
- Hire, coach, and calibrate engineering managers and senior engineers across the portfolio.
- Raise the bar on ownership, technical depth, delivery quality, and leadership maturity within the teams.
- Build a domain organization that can scale without excessive dependence on senior most leaders for day-to-day arbitration.

- Strong engineering depth and the ability to evaluate architecture, system design, service boundaries, and operational risk without needing to be hands-on in every subsystem.
- Demonstrated success building and leading teams through engineering managers rather than only direct IC leadership.
- Strong judgment on how to balance speed, quality, and maintainability in high-scale systems.
- The ability to partner effectively with product, operations, finance, program management, and senior leadership.
- A strong bias for clarity, ownership, simplification, and dependable execution.
Strong Differentiators :
- Experience in e-commerce, quick commerce, logistics, marketplaces, or other real-time transaction-heavy businesses.
- Experience owning systems directly tied to conversion, checkout, payment, promise, or serviceability.
- Experience reducing organizational and technical coupling across a multi-team engineering area.
- A strong track record of improving delivery predictability and engineering quality in a growing organization.
- Experience leading platform adjacent customer domains where engineering choices have both business and operational impact
