AVP Technical Engineering - Insurance Systems / Platforms

Job Summary :

Responsible for leading the Engineering function for our client's core insurance platforms: Life, Group Insurance, Distribution, and Money Management systems at one of the largest insurance providers in the country. This role will be responsible for Technical Strategy, Delivery Governance, Agile adoption, providing solutions to technical issues, and ensuring development schedules are met while delivering end-to-end high-performance, scalable, and flexible solutions.

The incumbent will also be responsible for hollowing the core, exploring and demonstrating application stack upgrades, and conducting quick prototypes to solve business problems. Work under the direction of the Solution Architect/Enterprise Architect and co-create solutions with IT delivery teams.

The role leads a team of 3 internal technical members and an outsourced team of 15 (including SMEs, Developers, BSAs).

Responsible for delivering technical solutions for all core applications, addressing hard fixes, monitoring EOD batches, maintaining system uptime, driving performance improvement, and executing timely tech stack upgrades alongside production support.

Key Responsibilities :

- Technical Strategy & Engineering Leadership

- Lead tech stack upgrades, modernization, version migrations, system hardening, and API readiness

- Align solutions with enterprise architecture and long-term business goals

- Own the end-to-end technical roadmap of Ingenium, Group Ais, and MMMA

- Define and implement best practices for coding, batch governance, and system performance

- Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with application teams, product owners, architects, and infrastructure teams

- Bridge business and technology to ensure shared services support multiple domains

- Promote platform adoption (event/reusable APIs, tools, services)

- Platform & Architecture Oversight

- Ensure cross-platform integration via APIs, batches, and data exchange

- Govern platform scalability, resilience, security, and monitoring

- Oversee solution architecture reviews and reusability efforts

- People & Partner Management

- Mentor engineers and oversee partner team performance and deliverables

- Define governance routines, SLAs, and KPIs for managed services

- Lead resource planning and risk mitigation across initiatives

- Build internal capability through coaching, documentation, and fostering engineering accountability

Governance & Best Practices :

- Enforce coding standards, regulatory compliance, and traceability

- Drive automation, CI/CD, and transition from batch to real-time processes

- Use metrics-driven engineering to enhance quality and efficiency

- Ensure optimal decision-making in production support

- Lead PoCs to evaluate the value and feasibility of new technologies

- Govern L2/L3 support, batch monitoring, and incident RCA processes

- Oversee solution work-streams and stakeholder handoffs

- Develop and present value-based proposals

Key Competencies/Skills :

- Strong troubleshooting of applications and interfaces

- Experience in application scalability and performance tuning

- End-to-end application design with backend integration

- Self-driven, solution-oriented mindset with excellent articulation

- 15+ years in CORE PAS, COBOL, Java, DBs, and modern tech stacks

- Proficiency in Agile, SDLC, estimation techniques

- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration

- Sound industry awareness and multi-project delivery experience

- Excellent time management, communication, and team leadership

Desired Qualification and Experience :

- BE/BCOM/MCA/MBA from a reputed institute

- 1518+ years in Insurance systems and tech consulting

- Deep transformation experience: data migration, workflow automation, cloud-based solutions

- Strong knowledge of AI solutions, automation, and business performance integration

- Hands-on experience with Ingenium and tech stack upgrades

- Proficiency in MF COBOL, IBM COBOL, Oracle, Java, REXX, Python

- Experience in Agile/SDLC and large project delivery

- Led teams of 4+ internal and 10+ partner resources

- Prior experience with large, reputed organizations in the insurance domain
