Assistant Vice President - Engineering Management

Job Summary :

Responsible for leading the Engineering function for our core insurance platforms : Life, Group Insurance and Distribution and Money Management systems.

This role will be responsible for Technical Strategy, Delivery Governance, Agile adoption, providing solutions to technical issues and are responsible for meeting development schedules and ensuring the delivered solution meets the technical specifications and design requirements with delivering end to end high performance, scalable & flexible solutions.

He/ She would be also responsible for hollowing the core, exploring and demonstrating application stack upgrades, End to End Solution of new technologies by means of conducting quick prototypes to solve business problems.

Work with the direction from Solution Architect/ Enterprise Architect and co-create solutions with rest of the IT delivery teams.

The incumbent will lead team of 3 technical team members plus outsourced team of around 15 including SME, Developers and BSA etc.

Provide technical solutions for all core applications, hard fixes, monitoring EOD batches, system uptime and continuous performance improvement and timely tech stack upgrades along with production support.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Strategy & Engineering Leadership :

- Lead Tech stack upgrades, Modernization, version migrations, system hardening activities and API readiness.

- Collaborate with vertical application teams, product owners, architects, and infrastructure teams to deliver solutions.

- Act as a bridge between business and technology units, ensuring shared services meet the needs of multiple domains.

- Facilitate platform adoption (e.g. Event/Reusable APIs, Tools).

Platform & Architecture Oversight :

- Ensure cross platform integration integrity (API, Batch and data exchange).

- Own end-to-end solution architecture reviews and reusability initiatives.

- Govern platform scalability, security, resilience & monitoring performance.

People & Partner Management :

- Manage and mentor internal engineers and performance and delivery of internal and partner team members.

- Establish governance routines, SLAs, and KPI for partner managed services.

- Resource planning, and risk mitigation for horizontal initiatives.

- Build internal capability through coaching, documentation, FAQ and resilient engineering culture in accountability and ownership.

Governance & Best Practices :

- Enforce Standards, coding best practices, compliance with internal controls and regulatory traceability.

- Drive automation, Batch to real time & continuous integration.

- Implement metrics-driven engineering processes to improve quality and efficiency.

- Ensure efficient resource and decision-making process production support activities.

Innovation & Emerging Tech with POC and Benefits :

- Drive innovation across core systems for modernization and automation.

- Lead PoCs to evaluate feasibility, performance gains and compliance of new solutions.

Operations and Support Oversight :

- Govern production support (L2/L3), Batch monitoring and incident RCA process.

- Maintain high system availability, performance and readiness for regulatory and compliance changes.

Desired qualification and experience :

- BE/BCOM/MCA/MBA from a reputed institute.

- Between 15 - 18+ years of Technical and System Analyst/Consultant on Insurance and Peripheral systems experience.

- Extensive experience in transformation and modernization, data migration including seamless integrations, workflow automation, and cloud-based solutions.

- Strong understanding of AI based solutions and how automation can be integrated with AI-driven solutions for enhanced business performance.

- Hands-on experience of Ingenium implementation and tech stack upgrades with Insurance functional knowledge.

- Experience in MF COBOL, IBM COBOL Oracle, Java, REXX, Python, Version control and debugging tools.

- Experience in SDLC and Agile methodologies with new product setup knowledge.

- Should have managed at least 4 large sized projects or several medium sized projects in a technology organization.

- Managed at least 4+ team internal and 10+ partner resources.
