Application Developer
About the Opportunity:
We build AI-powered tools and applications that people across the business depend on every day - and we need someone who owns the path from working code to running system.
This role sits between application development and operations. You'll write and maintain the backend services and data layer behind our applications, then deploy and run them on Windows VMs under IIS: standing up sites, configuring app pools and bindings, managing certificates, and keeping traffic flowing through our load balancers. When something is slow, failing, or costing us more than it should, you're the person who can see it in the telemetry and fix it in the code.
You'll work directly with the engineers building these products and with the people who use them. The systems you support include agentic AI workflows, RAG pipelines, and vector stores - so you'll need to be comfortable operating infrastructure that behaves less predictably than a standard CRUD app.
What You'll Do:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain applications across Windows Server VMs and IIS - sites, app pools, bindings, certificates, environment configuration
- Build and extend backend services in Python, and write the SQL that powers them
- Own release processes: build pipelines, staged rollouts, versioning, rollback plans, and post-deploy verification
- Configure and troubleshoot load balancing, health checks, and traffic routing across application nodes
- Run patching and maintenance cycles on Windows infrastructure with minimal disruption to users
- Manage Azure resources supporting our applications - Key Vault secrets and certificates, storage, networking, identity, and access policies
- Instrument our applications for observability - logging, metrics, tracing, alerting - and act on what it tells you
- Support the infrastructure behind our AI features, including vector databases, embedding pipelines, and Azure AI service dependencies
- Diagnose production issues end to end, from IIS logs to query plans to model latency, and write up what happened so it doesn't happen twice
- Document environments, runbooks, and deployment procedures so the team isn't dependent on any one person
Tech Stack :
Windows Server, IIS, Azure (Key Vault, App Service, Storage, Virtual Networks, Entra ID, Monitor), Python, SQL Server / T-SQL, PowerShell, Load balancers, CI/CD pipelines, Observability tooling (Application Insights), Vector databases, Azure AI / Azure OpenAI, LangChain, React / JavaScript
Requirements :
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Strong Python - you can structure and maintain a real codebase, work with APIs, and debug production issues independently
- Strong SQL - joins, aggregations, subqueries, indexing, and reading a query plan to find out why something is slow
- Strong Azure skills - provisioning and managing cloud resources, and confidence working across core services
- Hands-on with Azure Key Vault and secrets management
- Familiarity with Entra ID, managed identities, and role-based access control
- Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining applications on Windows Server and IIS
- Working knowledge of scripting for automation (PowerShell, Bash, or Python)
- Understanding of load balancing concepts - health checks, session handling, distribution strategies
- Experience with observability practices: structured logging, metrics, alerting
- Comfort owning maintenance and patching work
- Solid grasp of backend service design - APIs, authentication, background jobs, service-to-service communication
- Judgment about risk and blast radius, and the discipline to have a rollback plan before you need one
Bonus :
- CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions), Infrastructure as code (Terraform, ARM/Bicep), Containers and orchestration, AI/ML infrastructure, Front-end JavaScript or React, Networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS, firewalls, reverse proxies), HCM, payroll, or Dayforce exposure
